Better Device for 3d blurays PS3 or Sony BDPS6500

Right now i am using a PS3 pretty much just for playing 3d Blurays on a 1080p 3D LED TV, I was considering switching to a Sony BDPS6500. Is there any advantage to that other than simplicity? Does the BDPS6500 play/run the 3d blurays any better?

I can't vouch for the PS3, but the S6500 does have 4K upscaling and lots of streaming channels built in. 3D is probably about the same, though, except there is a parallax adjustment to increase/decrease eye separation for 3D, and 2D to 3D conversion for your existing DVDs and blurays. Works okay, but about average conversion compared to other 3D players.

Well ps3 is still a quite good 3d bluray player. I am sticking to it personally.

Depends if you have a slim or fat one, the fat ones cannot do lossless audio in 3d mode, but they will do SACD, so...

Yeah, those cannot play back 3d with lossless audio - they will only output DTS or Dolby digital, and not DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD.

My PS3 limits 3D over IP to 720P but Blu Ray still does 1080p.

I don't use my PS3 enough to justify upgrading but I did install a larger hard drive. It is very noisy and gets very hot.

OK, I've been using my super slim model now for Blu ray 3D's lately, and they're in 1080p, I think what I read must have been the games that were downgraded to 720 (which doesn't matter much since they're rendered at 720p or lower anyway). The only thing that doesn't work is True HD if it's 3D. Mad Max went to PCM audio and in my Pioneer it played the True HD track. PCM is still getting same bit rate as I understand so may not be a big deal. I remember reading that TrueHD and 3D wouldn't work at one point, I guess it still doesn't. Super Slim models are very quiet and don't get hot.
