The marketing guys at Samsung know what they're doing. This is the first real exposure of the new 3D to the general public. Of course there have reports out from CES and major newspapers have been reporting on the new 3D tech, but for the most part the general public has been oblivious to the new technology until this commercial aired. Most of the general public was probably slightly confused if they even picked up on what the commercial was about. That's because they've seen the crappy 3D with the red/blue glasses and they think that we've had 3D for a long time. This is a teaser spot, just to hint at the new technology. Ad people know that you sell the sizzle and not the steak. They aren't going to show a documentary type commercial about how the technology works---at least not for a few months. Lee is right. It would confuse the public even more if you told them that 3D is available now, but that there's no content yet. My guess is that by May we will have commercials from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and others, educating the general public about this 3D technology. The commercial did do something though. It let everyone on this forum know that 3D is coming for sure.
