Hi,

Some questions related to PS3 3D, PC 3D and Samsung 3D LED TVs

1) Can you play PS3 3D games with Samsung 3D TV or do you need to have Sony TV?
2) Will all PS3 games support 3D or will there be some games which are specifically made for it? I would suppose it would be rather easy to convert games to 3D since those usually are already 3D?
3) Is PS3 already 3D ready? (I suppose not ready for 3D blu-ray?)
4) What would be needed to get World of Warcraft 3D? Does game itself need to have support? Would it be just update to a drivers or is new GPU needed?

Thanks

1) Yes Samsung 3d will work
2) Games specifically made for it, I believe Avatar, Invincible Tiger, and Infinity are out now with more to come. Grand Turismo should be sweet. See this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1245864. Many reporting that the 2d-3d conversion on sammy tvs works decently on some games.
3) The firmware for 3d games is already out. Not movies yet
4) Depends on what you have now. See system requirements here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Visi...uirements.html. If you have ATI, they are said to be working on a version of what nvidia already has. They havent updated their site to include the new 3d tvs yet. But I believe all you would need is a new GPU if yours isnt listed. Or wait for ATI to catch up (there are some 3rd party products for ATI said to work now)

The PS3 firmware update to support 3D games is not out yet. It's expected sometime in June and the update for Blu-ray 3D a couple of months later.

i am just plain tired of all this 3d priority stuff.if ps3 doesn't support the samsung checkerboard format then fine. i will buy a pany blueray player and just enjoy movies through their player and as far as sony gaming in 3d is concerned or samsungs or sonys new 3d tvs i will be content with what i have until my tv is done and then maybe 3d will still be popular if not it will be the companies themselves through their own practices who have turned off people like me to not give a darn about it anymore.enough of this craziness.

* the PS3 3d update was back in April.

* 3D updates for WipEout HD (full game), Super Stardust HD (full game), PAIN and MotorStorm Pacific Rift (3D demo) are coming out tomorrow (June 10, 2010)

...i'm still looking around, but does anyone have links to suggested setups for the Samsung HL-T series 3D ready DLP TVs? what set-top box/glasses combos are good? do you need to use any specific HDMI port, or do all of them accept 3D content?

Regarding the Samsung HL series. The Xpand X102 glasses are great, for 3D Blu-Ray the Panasonic works with those displays, and you have to use HDMI input #3.

Currently testing 3D with Sammy DLP, shutter glasses, and HTPC

Thanks. what emitter do you use? I have an HL-T5689s that has a "3D sync" output, but it doesn't have an emitter/transmitter to send the signal to the glasses.

x102's don't use an emitter.

they must have some sort of emitter to tell the glasses when to switch from left to right.
http://www.xpandcinema.com/products/glasses/X102-home/
"XpanD X102 Series is designed for DLP®-Link communication between the glasses and TV/projector"

could i use this emitter with those glasses? : http://www.ultimate3dheaven.com/dlphd3dtrfid.html

has anyone on this thread actually viewed 3D with a Samsung hl-T DLP with the "3D sync" output? if so, what emitter / glasses combo did they use?

The 3D DLP TV outputs a very short in duration white flash between frames which is so fast you do not see it but the X102 DLP-Link glases do see it and shift eyes when they do.

I have a question, seems like the right place to ask it... I have a DLP Samsung 61" that says 3D Ready on the front. Everything I have researched says that i need to hook up a PC to my tv in order to get some checkerboard effect which then gives me 3D. With the new PS3 update, does this mean that I will not have to hook a PC up to the TV? Hooking a PC up to our TV is not an option for us, so being able to use the PS3 in it's place would be great. Please excuse my ignorance here, but I have no clue at all how this 3D stuff will work with my DLP tv. Thanks!!!

It doesn't mean that, because the PS3 will not produce the checkerboard 3D format that your Samsung DLP needs.

I don't think it is going to be easy. The game data and game engine may be inherently 3D, but rendering into stereoscopic images is computationally demanding.

I have read that Avatar for the PS3 offers checkerboard format 3D which the DLP sets can use. If Avatar can do it through software I would assume Sony could easily add it to their OS. Since their TVs do not support checkerboard 3D they probably will not (which I believe is a mistake since it would greatly increase 3D sales of games and movies).

from the post on the playstation blog ( http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/..._gaming_060910 ) it just says the 3D content will be "...available in stereoscopic 3D for anyone who owns a PS3 system and 3D television.."
and later in the comments, the moderator says "The PS3's 3D capabilities will work with 3D TVs from other manufacturers."

i realize that this doesn't mean they will use checkerboard 3D format, but it certainly doesn't indictae the PS3 won't support multiple formats. i'm still looking into this as it's only becoming available today.

No, it's possible the PS3 will support checkerboard output. However, I don't just make these things up -- see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=159.

thanks for the link. i didn't think you were making anything up. i just haven't found any info on what 3D formats the PS3 will output. i've contacted Samsung to see what they say about their "3D Ready" TVs working with PS3 3D gaming. i would like some sort of official information rather than "PaulGo who heard it from Penton Man who asked Sony".

maybe i'll contact Sony as well to get some info on 3D gaming vs 3D bluray playback and the formats the PS3 will support.

You can hook up the Panasonic 3D Blu Ray player to that display, and it'll work just fine.

If a PS3 can play 3D games (or movies) on that TV, w/o the need for a PC, I would love that very much. All this is just so damn confusing.

I own the same TV. Assuming you have 3D glasses the PS3 will currently play Avatar (the game) in 3D and I think a game called Invincible Tiger (not sure if that is the right title).

Beyond that, the PS3 will only play other games in 3D if Sony offers a checkerboard output in the future, or if the pairing of the gefen hdmi detective and mitsubishi 3DA-1 adapter work correctly. The same could be said about 3D movies on the 61a750 once the PS3 gets the firmware update for 3D movie playback.

Beyond that the only two ways to get 3D on an a750 (that I know of) is with a PC or with a Panasonic 300/350 3D blu-ray player (as it offers checkerboard output).

You have to use tridef 3D Hardware and Software.

Thank you,

unfortunately, there is no "tridef 3D Hardware" available from that site. the forums suggests the ugly glasses from "i-O Display", "eDimensional" and "Ultimate 3D Heaven" : http://www.ddd.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=481

i still haven't heard back from Sony.

I don't think the Tridef glases are available any more.
You need to get Xpand x102 DLP-link glases.
Or determine how to get addional glases of the type that are being provided with Mits 3D adapter kit.

it looks like the X102s only work for these models:
HL61A750A1F DLP HDTV
HLT6198S DLP HDTV
http://www.xpandcinema.com/products/...X102-home/dlp/

the HL-T series don't have the "DLP®-Link / White Light Communication" features.

I just bought a Samsung PN58C8000. *I can not get my ps3 to recognize the tv. It picks up 1080p resolution but not 1080p3D or 720p3D. *So I don't know what's wrong. I think I'm using HDMI 1.3 but not a 100% sure, Also the ps3 is directly connected to the tv, thinking it might be my avr. *The ps3 firmware is 3.3 and it says their are no available updates. *Please help don't know what to do. * **

Had the same problem. Go to Settings/Display Settings/Video Output Settings and let it detect the settings. You should get 720p(3D) and 1080p(3D) added to the supported resolutions. If you don't, replace the HDMI cable.
