Hey guys I have the following setup:

Vivitek D538W 3D Projector (http://www.amazon.com/Vivitek-D538W-.../dp/B004IOUVOO)
3D DLP Link Shutter Active Glasses
WD TV Live (http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330)
HDMI Cable (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-PREMIU...-/380389564176)

Basically when I try to run mkv 3D files the image is "blocky", for really thin lines or sharp edges the image will be blocky/jagged. I've tried everything from playing with the settings to getting a better HDMI cable with no solution. The videos I ran were 1080p and 720p, with the same problem. The WDTV Live is set to play at 720p 60hz 12bit. Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Your problem is you've got it hooked up to a WDTV outputting 720p. In that scenario the signal is only 640x720 per eye, a far cry from the 1920x1080 signal of a 3D Blu-ray.

Here's a scaled size comparison of a 3D Blu-ray signal compared to side by side 720p, as well as the end result image quality:

A SBS 1080p signal would be 960x1080 per eye, which is considerably better but still half the quality of full HD.

What do you recomend then? If I put the WDTV at 1080p, then the projector won't let me turn 3D on...

I just tried putting the PS3 on 1080p (3D) and I still cant turn on 3D on the projector...Should I get the Optoma BG-3DXL so I can get the 1080p?

Also I noticed from reading various media streamer comparisons that WDTV doesnt support 3D, but something like the Sony smp-nx20 does, should I be looking into getting that?

I put the WDTV Live up on my 47" Toshiba LED 3DHDTV and set the media player's resolution to 1080p and all the videos played fine...seems like I need that Optoma BG3DXL so I can get 1080p resolution on my D538W, can anyone give me some help so I know I'm onto something?

You're thinking right. You need a display that supports 1080p if you want clear 3D from side by side content. And your player doesnt have to support 3D at all to do side by side. It just needs HDMI ouputs.

display? well my display (vivitek d538w) can handle normal 1080p, but it says it can only do 720p 3D...would the bg3dxl converter allow me to have this projector display 1080p 3D?
