HK/China is starting to make action films in 3D, so I'm considering getting some sort of 3D display/projector. Are the low-end systems (PS 3D Display, Epson 3010, Optoma HD33) up to very fast action (much faster than Hollywood)? Does one need a higher-end system, or does no home system do a good job with 3D action at this point?

You don't need a high end system for great 3d. I would choose a dlp 3d projector or tv ,which don't have problems with motion ,ghosting or crosstalk like lcd. I have an active 3d setup, an Optoma hd66 projector and the 3d is great, never no problems with motion or anything else.

Thanks; only looking at DLP would certainly cut down the number of systems to consider.

I didn't want to spend a lot to add 3D in my theater so I purchased an Acer H5360 DLP projector and it throws a great image with my PS3 and games. No motion issues. DLP is the best for motion and 3D IMHO.

I have the Optoma GT750 entry level 720p DLP projector. It is really fantastic with gaming (720p60) and bluray 3d. However when fed 1080p24 for 3D bluray I will say that some fast action scenes can sometimes show some blur/judder type effects. I think a 1080p unit with CFI (creative frame interpolation) might help smooth out so of these minor motion effects.

Fast action? I'd say you will want DLP. 1080p dlp is is the bvest with fast movement for sure. If you had a hot external scaler the 720p display would probablu be fine.

My GT700 has some really minor scaling isssues during fast action scenes from Bluray as well. You may be best setting the player to output 720p if it has the option with a 720p projector.
