You may want to post this in the projector forums. Also, include room specifications (light control, throw distance, wall color, etc.). There are many owners who would weigh in on helping you.

There are three in the $1500 range: The Epson 3010, the Acer 9500, and the Optoma HD 33. they are all plenty good, so you won't go wrong with any of them. The Epson is brighter, with more vibrant colors. That means it will be better in the daytime or with some lights on in the room, and it will be better for large screen sizes, 120" or larger. The Epson has more crosstalk in 3D, though. The Acer and the Optoma will be better if you really don't want to ever see crosstalk, you are using a small enough screen (around 100"), and you will have it pretty dark whenever watching 3D. If playing online shooter games is important to you, then the Optoma would be best, because it has the least gaming lag. If you don't know whether one thing or another will bother you, (rainbow effect, crosstalk, color accuracy, contrast specs...) it almost surely will not bother you after you get a projector. Those are much more of concern to people buying their second or third projector and wanting something significantly better than they are already used to.
