Not confused:

DLP is great

Confused:

IR or DLP-link glasses

Why there are so many standards

Why IR glasses are cheaper but sometimes seem to be better than DLP-link to keep sync

Hope that was a good ice breaker to answer a question that had probably been asked a billion times here smile.gif

How else can I make sense of this.. I have been doing research for 3 weeks and not come to a common denominator.

Considering I am a very intelligent person.. The influx of information here is completely baffling.

RFC standards were made to alleviate this type of confusion.

Well, for me, IR sucks. Sure it works better for being synced, but my TV always has DLP Link enabled. So, when using IR glasses the blacks are always tinted red. The DLP Link glasses are the only ones that make blacks look actually black. The problem is that all these different manufacturers made glasses however they felt without any standards in place. Now that a few years have gone by there are some standards so things are getting easier.

The newer Mitsubishi TVs have the ablity to turn off the DLP Link flash that causes the tint to the blacks. If you select IR glasses, just turn off the DLP Link feature in the menu.

As for standards - at the beginning of every new technology there is always competing standards THAT IS THE NORM. Since there are so many patents in the world, each patent owner wants their patented technology used and be paid a license fee. Sometimes it takes time for the dust to settle and the final winners to be declared.
