Correct, that this projector is "3D ready". Meaning, you either need to hook it up to a computer or buy the optoma 3DXl located here:
or the viewsonic equivalent here:
The projector you are wanting to buy is HDMI 1.3 and these 2 boxes will convert it to a useable HDMI 1.4 signal so you can hook a 3D blue ray player up to it. Now , with that being said. Viewsonic released 2 awesome projectors this year that are full 3D HDMI 1.4 blue ray player ready and everything else right out of the box. They are the Viewsonic pjd5533w(the one I have currently) found here
that is only $500. The projector you are looking to buy up top has a contrast ratio of 4000:1 where as the pjd5533w is 15000:1. The major diff is that the projector you are wanting to buy has 3500 lumans where is the pjd5533w is 2800 lumens. I'm sure though that the viewsoinic pjd6633w looses less light in 3D mode then the one your are thinking about buying.
The other viewsoinc projector that is $699 and blows all of them away is this one:
Check out the forum for projector under $3000 and you will see the great reviews others are giving to it. For only $700 it will blow away everything. What really cool about it is that it doesn't hardly loose any brightness when in 3D mode. Here's the AVS forum link to where others are buying it and giving feed back on it.
Buy time you buy that projector as well as the convertor you will have spent way more money then just going with the viewsonic pjd5533w or the viewsonic pjd7820.
They seem to be out of the pjd7820 on amazon so here is the same projector at newegg.com
Just be aware that if you get the pjd7820 you will need DLP glasses that can do 144 htz.
