Increasing 3d pop - AVS Forum

My kit:
 

Mede8er 600X3d playing original untouched 3d-bluray rips

Panasonic 42" ET60 LCD TV

Viewing distance 7 ft

 

I don't get much 3d pop. I have tried known 'pop' demo scenes, such as the end credits of 'Despicable Me', but while there is depth, I don't get that '3d object hanging in the air in front of me' feeling. It seems like it might vary  by the viewer though? One of my kids says yes, the other 'not really'.

 

Any thoughts on how I can improve my 3d experience????

 

The Mede8er has a 3d depth setting (0 to 14, default 8), and the panasonic has a view adjustments, but nothing seems to make much difference. Am I too close?

At 7 feet from a 42" screen, I would say you are a bit too far. Perhaps if you sat a little closer you might start to see more of a "pop out" effect with some content. Below is a link to an article on the subject:

One aspect of that article I find confusing is why the author is multiplying the FOV by two? It makes his calculations very difficult to follow when he begins discussing viewing distance in the latter half of the page. I understand that the THX recommended viewing angle is a minimum of 36 degrees, but then he multiplies it by two to arrive at 72 degrees for -as he puts it- "both sides". I have never seen FOV values interpreted this way.
