Can you compress 3d video ?

So I finally decided I want to add my 3d movies to my HTPC.
I normally use Makemkv to rip and Handbrake to compress my movies, so I thought id give it a try on 3d.

I ripped the 3d movie (mvc file I believe) using makemkv , Works great pc/tv auto switches to 3d everything ok

Then I compress using handbrake and now seems to have lost 3d component. Does Not auto detect 3d and if I switch manually it seems to be giving 2d - 3d conversion

?'s
any thing I need to change in handbrake settings or
can you compress 3d movies to smaller size at all
if so how
what program

thanks for help (Harold&Kumar:Christmas3d ripped was 26GB after Handbrake 2.49GB)

I am quite sure Handbrake cannot recompress MVC to MVC. It's the first time I see someone attempting this. Your only option is probably ripping to side-by-side (full or half) AVC; Handbrake shouldn't have a problem recompressing that. You will have very limited options with playing the full SbS, AFAIK.

BD25 ISOs of 3D movies are exactly this and range around 18-22 GB in size.
