In am looking to buy a soundbar and would like to use a subwoofer I already have for a home theater system. How do you determine compatibility of a sub with a new soundbar??

Many of us are probably unfamiliar with how sound bars connect to receivers. But, assuming that the sound bar simply connects to some or all of the receiver's speaker outputs, then the sub would be connected conventionally to the receiver's subwoofer output with the receiver's settings set appropriately.

What sound bar(s) are you considering?

The bass response of most "sounbars" is fairly anemic, and usually starts to roll off at 120 Hz-150 Hz, regardless of their published spec. Whatever sub you decide upon will need to be placed close to the soundbar so it isn't easily localized. Then, I would expect the result to be quite good.
