I can't get the unit to respond to any input from the remote control. I also tried using my Harmony remote, using the signals it downloaded for the CT-100, and thats not doing anything either. I know the IR receiver is in the speaker bar, and I'm pointing at the speakers, but still nothing. Is there a trick to get it working, or do I seem to have a defective one?

center channel volume is more for mid sound.
try watching a movie and make sure its 5.1 audio output,
do you hear voice clearly - i mean not necessarily increasing systems volume.

im really close to returning this unit

I can hear voices very clearly in 5.1 even at low volume.

I don't have blue ray to try but I just watched Hunt for the Red October on an HD movie and it sounded great. Maybe its a setting on your blue ray thats the issue?

Well I solved the problem. In case anyone else has the same problem -- the speaker bar's cable was not fully plugged into the back of the main unit. It was 90% plugged in, but shoving it in the last 10% must have made an additional connection.

I am hoping to pick up a CT100 at Sears Sunday. I am going to need an extra HDMI cable or two, so does anyone know where to get a good (yet monoprice-like cheap) HDMI cable at B&M?

However, since I got the CT100, every time I enter a new game, or put in a movie, basically whenever the PS3 has to re-load and check for resolution, the video starts blinking rapidly. If I turn the monitor off for a few seconds it turns back on and everything is fine. I did some research, and I think there might be an HDMI handshaking issue between the CT100 and my TV. Seems very similar to the PS3/Westinghouse issues. But I haven't read about anyone else ever having this issue, so I don't know if it's my unit. I'm using a pretty cheap HDMI cable from the Apple Store, and am wondering if a higher quality cable might help. I really don't know if I should take it back or not as I doubt there is anything physically wrong with the unit. Otherwise I just have to turn my TV off and on every time I load something new on my PS3 which is getting annoying.

Hi Fazemega -- I have a somewhat similar issue but the problem is more video than audio. I posted my problem on the PS3 forum:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1042610

However, I did hear the crackling in my speakers once, so I came back on here because I remembered your issue, but the speaker thing was a one time issue (so far). Anyways, I'm going to have to disconnect and re-connect everything over the weekend as a poster suggested on my thread in the PS3 forums. My PS3 playback was fine until I got the CT100. My huntch is that the CT100 is causing my problem. I'm also using cheap HDMI cables.

Hope to post pics of my screen with the blue color problem and report back. Keep us posted. Thanks.

lovhybrid,

i am experiencing the same thing. not all of time, mind you, or on all channels, but only on some movies, tv shows, etc. i have tried everything, and my best fix is switching the sound field option back to "standard" (i normally have it on "movie").

but even then, i feel as if the the dialogue and voices are quite muted. i hate turning the volume up, because then all backgound sounds are way too loud.

has anyone else experienced this, and have a settings fix?

We rarely watch movies on my 32" JVC LCD. Use the 48" JVC RPTV with a HTIB for that. Will the CT-100 be ok for just TV watching(no movies, occasional games on PS2 and Gamecube)? I read all through the posts that it has to be turned up to 35 to get good sound. My TV speakers on 14-15 are very loud.

I am starting to think my LCD is fine without any kind of additional speakers.

my fix for 5.1 source :
when on standard - adjust the center channel setting to +3, sub is 0
on movies - center channel stays at +3, i adjust sub to -3 (so not to affect voice)

The best B&M price on HDMI cables that I have seen is at my local Sam's Club. They have 8' cables for $20.

i will try that when i get home tonight and see if i like it. so, what is the verdict with you -- are you going to return it?

this dialogue mute is certainly more pronounced in some movies rather than others, that is for sure...

No you do not have to crank it to 35. I will if I want it real loud but I mostly keep it around 25, I never have had to go above 35. When watching movies with my fathers true 5.1 surround sound he has to put his receiver at 50 for it to be loud enough. I think it's just the nature of how surround sound is.

Since there has been so much talk about this Sony and Im kind of a soundbar junkie I decided to go pick one up last night to try it out at home.

I hooked it up along side my newly purchased Samsung AS720,,,( I really love my new Samsung).

My thoughts for what its worth,,,, the Sony does sound really good,, I must say I was impressed in the tone and the overall sound,,, and the HDMI switching worked perfect with my BluRay, HD-DVD and cable box.

But to the main thing I wanted to check out, the fake surround effect,,, I was not that impressed.
While the Sony had a good full sound and at times the hint of surround it was not up to par with the Yamaha YSP's (which I have owned quite a few) I would also comment that the Bose 321 (I have also owned those) gives off a better surround effect than the Sony.

And yes, I do realize the Bose 321's and the YSP's cost way more than the Sony,,, I'm just commenting on the surround effect, regaurdless of pricing.

If your looking for a convincing surround set-up with just one or 2 speakers my top choice would still be any of the Yamaha YSP systems with the Bose 321 coming in at second place.

If a convincing surround effect is not top on your list the Sony soundbar does sound pretty darn good with a nice full sound, and 3 HDMI inputs,,,, well worth the $300.00.

I will be returning the Sony this weekend,, damm that 15% restocking fee at Sears,, but hey,, I was curious.

Just my thoughts/opinion.

Cheers
Davyo

Thanks for the help!

as an aside:

I read the cnet review last Wed or Thurs
I went down to the local sonystyle store to see if they had them in. Talked to the guy that was working for about 2 minutes, he told me that

a) I'd still need to buy a receiver

b) that "frankly, it'll probably suck. Sony's speakers sound terrible, I'd go look at Polk or Yamaha and I even work for Sony"

so that kind of soured me on it. Then read through the posts on this thread and was much more optimistic.

great guess work

No problem. When you are listening to a 5.1 track all the dialougue is fed to the center speaker. Glad it worked out for you. I watch more movies in my bedroom now because of this unit.

Ok it's been 3 weeks already with the ct-100, and i'm still pretty happy with it. I've seen over a dozen movies so far and on 80% of them the sound is great with the volume at about 33-38 . As you all know some dvd's just sound like crap, for example i watched 10,000 bc recently and man was that soundtrack terrible i had the volume maxed out at 49. Meanwhile earlier today i saw fantastic 4 rise of the silver surfer and it was loud with the vol. at 33-35. With a tradional 5.1 system putting out more watts than the ct-100 you can deal with low volume dvd's by cranking it up more, but the ct-100 is limited with only 250 watts. Now on tv sound i see a few have complained about low vol. levels, i also have this problem only on anolog stations 5.1 HD channels sound much louder. I like the ct-100 alot and i sometimes miss having rear speakers and more system power, i only have a week left before i can return it to sears but i'm leaning towards keeping it. Oh yeah one more thing C-nets review said to keep the center ch. volume at 0 or +1 in order to hear any kind of surround effect from this unit, just thought i should mention that seeing that some of you have it set fairly high.

Are you talking about the light when the unit is on/off ? If so it's amber on standby mode and green when you turn it on.
