I have a TV set up in front of my treadmill. Most shows/movies are not loud enough for me to hear over the sound of the treadmill without subtitles, I'd like to fix that.

What is the loudest soundbar available that can hook directly into my WDTV media streamer (via optical) for under $250 or so? I listened to a few at Best Buy and none seemed to get very loud.

The alternative is a pair of BIC Venturi DV62SI speakers with a receiver to drive them, though I'm very short on room so setting that up would be tough and I'd prefer the soundbar.

Are there any soundbars out there with optical in that will get SUPER LOUD and allow me to hear over my treadmill, or am I stuck trying to find room for the speakers/amp?

I think the Yamaha YAS-101 would accomplish what you are hoping for.

Does that one get really loud?

Anyone else got suggestions/experiences?

It would have to be something that connects to the WDTV wirelessly, which I've not been able to find. In fact, I don't think the WDTV has a headphone jack at all.

My dad has a Polk with optical that is pretty impressive (for a soundbar) and is frequently on sale at Bestbuy for $299 (regularly $349). It's worth a look.

Have you looked at the Vizio VHT215? I just set mine up and it seems to offer very loud sound...it also comes with a wireless subwoofer. Priced at $250 at Amazon.

I actually ended up buying a Vizio SB200 on ebay for around 85 bucks. It's not end of the world loud, but it'd a huge improvement over the TV speakers and is doing the job pretty well now.

I was going to say, don't try to overpower the treadmill's noise and punish the ears, go with some earplugs/phones and kill two stones in one, but oh well, too late.

Solution: FREE. Explanation: I will have to charge$ you.

I have a Dynavox soundbar that can really rock (advertised at 520 watts, but we all know that is an overestimate)! I would say it is a little bass-fatiguing (if that is a word). But the thing often gets drug outdoors, so acoustics aren't very good anyway. Trying to hear a soundbar over a treadmill isn't gonna be acoustically perfect either....

So unfortunately it looks like the Vizio VSB200 may be a no-go, after using it for a few months. It seems to work fine on some sources but on other sources it will shut off during loud parts (I'm guessing it's automatically shutting down when it detects something that might blow out the speaker).

For instance, I could stream Prison Break from Netflix at full blast and it was plenty loud to hear over the treadmill. However if I stream Battlestar Galactica from Netflix at 3/4's volume the soundbar will shut off 5 or 6 times per episode and I have to turn it back on.

So, I'm back in the market. I'll try and keep this thread updated if I find something that works, in case anyone comes across it on google.

Those look like they'd be a huge hinderance while running.

This was my first thought when I initially started searching, but I was never able to find anything that would work with a WDTV Live, especially wirelessly (I don't want a big cord going from the TV to my head while I'm running on the treadmill)

I know is this is an old topic but the Sony HTCT-260 is amazing for the price, usually $300 but ask the salesman for a discount. Might give it to you, just gotta ask for one.
- From a salesmans point if view, When you ask for a discount, please be nice about, even the pitty card with kids, money, etc.. Make sure you let the salesman you and whoever will buy from him/her from now on.
