I have a Denon 891 receiver which I would like to be able to connect to my Harman/Kardon SB 16 soundbar. The sound bar works if connected directly to the tv with optical cable with my apple box (using for testing) plugged into the Samsung TV. The purpose in the sound bar was to use a smaller footprint for speakers while keeping visible cables limited. I can not get the receiver to send sound to the soundbar. I am not sure if I have given enough information as it is starting to spin from the amount reading and setups I have tried. Help.

Amplified soundbars and AVRs are not meant to be used together, which would explain why you can't get this to work. If you want to use a soundbar with the AVR, you need to get a PASSIVE one which connects just like discrete speakers. So either return the HK16 or pack your Denon back in its box until you have room for actual speakers.

Thanks that's what I was coming to but I wanted confirmation. Any suggestions for passive sound bars that sound decent?
