Thanks for the link. Best looking soundbars ever from Yamaha or anyone else. Can't wait to demo. Might be time to go back to Yamaha after being in some other camps for the last three years if the sound delivers.

I like it but there's a sonic hole between the soundbar and subwoofer. A freind told me yamaha would make and updated model by the end of this year are next. Just looking at these two i see they have small woofers that probably corrects this issue. I feel hosed!!!mad.gifeek.gif

That looks really cool. I really like the new low profile stealthy look whereas before it was a challenge to get it inside some shelves that were not high enough.

I can't wait what they have in store with the 5300 if it should come out, it should be the king of all sound bars perhaps.

Regarding the specifications of the YSP3300 is it worth waiting for or would the YSP2200 suffice?
We would like to use it a multimedia center, movies and streaming music?
Many thanks.

The 2200 is great for movies but the sonic hole mentioned above (between 120 Hz and 530 Hz as far as I can tell) means it's just OK for music. I really like mine but I use it mostly for movies. You might want to look at Daniel Kumin's review in Sound and Vision magazine. Presumably the 3300 and 4300 remove the hole, but they're a lot more expensive.

Ted

Edit: Plus the new ones have a wireless sub. This may be unnecessary. A sub needs to pick up the sonic load at higher frequencies (say, 100Hz and above) to support a soundbar, than it does for most true surround sound systems. You can spatially locate those higher frequencies so you really need the sub to be close to the TV when using it with a soundbar. You may as well hard wire it and avoid the hassle of bluetooth deciding whether to couple or not, depending on how it feels (like my Polk 6000 used to do).

Once you start getting into over $1000 pricing, aren't you really better off with receiver and separate speakers? (other than if you just don't have the room)

Thx

True below $1000 too. Sound bars are a good solution when proper placement of speakers is not possible.

Or you don't own the place and thus aren't able or willing to drill holes everywhere to hide the wiring for the surround speakers.

it s 4 times expensive than my yas 101 in my country.

does it worth it. is there a biq sound quality difference?

or if it ll be same price i can wait for new yamaha 4300 ..

i want to use my soundbar for music too. but i think my yas101 is not good with music

I haven't heard the Yamaha YAS101. I did some research on-line (which is never the same as actual listening) and compared to the 101 the 2200 has much more powerful amplifiers so it would fill a larger room with sound, and it would presumably provide deeper bass with its dedicated subwoofer cabinet and larger bass speakers. The 101 doesn't appear to have a center channel speaker so you would hear dialog better with the 2200. But a major reason for the difference in cost is that the 101 is a simple speaker replacement for your TV's speakers while the 2200 also has a lot of video and audio inputs (including 3 HDMIs) and is able to switch between the inputs. In this regard it acts somewhat like a home theater receiver.

I don't know where you live but the 2200 is also about 4 times as expensive in the US (although I saved US$200 buying it new from an eBay dealer). The 101 seems well regarded for use in a small room. If you're using it in a small room and if your TV gives you all the video inputs you need, I doubt if you'll feel you got your money's worth by spending 4 times as much for the 2200. (Yamaha really doesn't make crappy home theater equipment in my experience, although quoting the 101's amplifier power at 10% THD is definitely bush league.) And the Yamaha 3300 and 4300 are going to be way more expensive than the 2200.

does this unit have a dac built in?

because it says "When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Music Enhancer Technology restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should. The Music Enhancer restores the original, live sound of your music, especially deep, strong sounds like bass and drums."

this was from yamaha ysp2200 s specs.. so do these soundbars have DAC? if we send music , for example FLAC from our laptops, will they be played perfect?

Of course they do. I'm not trying to be sarcastic at all, I just want you to use logic. Speakers require an analog signal. Soundbars (or any other digital sound system) accept a digital input. How on earth would they deliver sound to your ears if they didn't have a digital to analog converter? 8-)

Aaaaah - that's a very different question. Do all automobile engines produce the same power? This is the same type of question as, do all DACs do an equally good job converting digital to analog? Certainly not. This is a major reason why, for example, computer sound boards vary widely in price. Some DACs are a lot better (and more expensive) than others. The only way most of us can know how well they do, is to read reviews done by knowledgeable reviewers. You're asking for a black-and-white answer, and in fact this is an area of shades of gray.

Please, did somebody hear about new theater rack systems too? The Yamaha YRS-1100 is based on YSP-2200 and is here for two years and I'm not sure how often they renew this kind of AVR. I would like to buy it as a new model and not just before it will end.

I had the 4300 at home for a couple of days. I need to mention that it had to compete against the B&W Panorama.

To make a long story short wink.gif

If you had no soundbar before or not used to a real 5.1 system the Yamaha will bring good if not excellent movie sound into your living room. The surround effects are slightly better than what the B&W can do in this respect. The Yamaha also handles dialogues more precisely than the Panorama.

Unfortunately the Yamaha is not a big fan of playing music rolleyes.gif While just for playing movies both soundbars have their pros and consbut in terms of playing music the B&W blows the Yamaha away. And that was the reason why I had to return the Yamaha system.

And btw...sorry for my bad english but I'm not a native speaker rolleyes.gif

Your English is fine.

Thanks for the review.

Have you heard the DefTech SoloCinema XTR...or on the low end of things the Vizio VHT510, with its satellite rears? Both are said to be good with music.

Happy New Years!
