Vizio vht 215 shuts off on mute, when I pause dvr after about 10 minutes
or when I use tv as pc monitor with out sound after maybe 10 minutes.

Is this a suppose to happen? Is there a way to turn that feature off?

connections-laptop to soundbar-hdmi
dvr/cablebox to soundbar-hdmi
soundbar (arc) to tv (arc)-hdmi

I had a similar setup(hookup) on my VTH215.

I was able sync the tv/soundbar with the directv remote.

The tv would never turn on after the directv box went on unless I hit the volume button.

I contacted Vizio. They said that the soundbar went into a "sleep mode" until come activity
occurred, such a adjusting the volume, since using the arc/hdmi hook up, everything pasted thru
the sound bar).

Maybe you are having a similar "sleep mode" situation when there is no activity.

On a side note my vht 215 stopped working last month,(could not change settings) 13 mounts after my purchase.

It was covered by an extended warranty. Could not be fixed. The warranty company cut me a check for the original
amount plus tax. I'm ordering the zvox z-base 555 next week to replace it. Btw I loved the 215. just want to try
something different, and can return in 30 days if not happy.

Hope the info helped..

My tv power stays on, just lose picture due to soundbar turning its self off.

Is there a way to prevent this?

On restart of soundbar it always starts up on hdmi arc , which only the tv apps work on with this setup and I don't use right now.

Can I make it start on hdmi 1, because that is where cablebox is hooked up instead of starting on hdmi arc,so I don't have too use 2 remotes every time.

I can turn on/off tv and soundbar and volume works on both with cablebox remote control, but on restart have to switch from arc hdmi to hdmi 1 with soundbar remote control.

Does anyone with this soundbar and same connection have this problem?

Let me correct what I said, which was "The tv would never turn on after the directv box went on unless I hit the volume button."
Actually the tv was on but like you the picture was not on and would not come on until I change the volume (getting it out of sleep mode).

My set up was similar to the way you are set up in the sketch. Except I did not have a computer hookup at all.

My blue ray is hooked up to the hdmi 2 on the tv and i used my tv remote to switch to that.

Remember the arc is doing the back and forth communication.

I think you should connect your computer to one of the hdmi's (2, 3 or 4) on the tv and and switch between devices with the tv remote.

This may correct your situation. Give it a try.

I have the same setup as pictured along with the same issue. When I'm gaming on PS3 I'm usually listening to music from a separate stereo with the videogame volume on mute. I also use my PS3 for blueray so I don't want to bypass the sound bar. Pretty annoying and only made worse by the hassle of having to turn on/off the cable box to get the picture to return.
