I want a simple, high-quality sound system for my living room TV. I'm mounting my 60" LED above the fireplace, and a soundbar will sit perfectly on the mantle!! I heard the Bose Cinemate in the store and the sound was pretty damn impressive...but so was the price. Quite frankly, it's only a few hundred dollars shy of what I'm paying for my TV. Just wondering if anyone here owns one, or at least taken one for a test drive, and could give me their impression.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't buy Bose personally (altho I did a very long time ago buy one of their early Acoustimass/sat setups and within a few weeks sold it to a friend of mine who liked it but it wasn't nearly as good as what I had already...got it only because a friend was able to get a healthy discount).

Lots of people here aren't fans at all. Simple it might be, but it's mostly marketing. Here's what a search of Bose Cinemate got me http://www.avsforum.com/newsearch?search=bose+cinemate

LG 55LM7600
B&W Panorama 1

Sonos Playbar is also a great soundbar and can be paired with a subwoofer for about the same pirce of the 1SR. Also look into the B&W Panorama, both sound fantastic.

That B&W is beautiful, I didn't even know they made soundbars (once upon a time we used their reference monitors in the recording studio)...but $2200 is a bit out of my price range. I purchased the Bose SR1...got it for 10% off because I purchased a flat screen TV along with it.

I'm sure I will be content with the SR1. I'm not exactly an audiophile...too many years of rocking on stage and riding Harleys with straight pipes have ruined my ability to distinguish subtle variation in frequency, especially in the higher range. I don't believe I will benefit from spending the extra $800 on the B&W...but it sure is SWEET looking!!

I'll just say one thing. Currently, the 1SR is the #1 selling sound bar in America. Why, because it's the best in the market. I listen to a ton of sound bars and none have surpassed the performance level of the 1SR.
