I have a 5.1 setup with full range floor-standing fronts and a potent center speaker. My rear wall does have lot of windows limiting the space for surround speakers. There is about 18" space between the windows, all the way from floor to ceiling.

I know, I can hook up small satellite speakers and tilt them down in an angle. I am wondering if I could install long/flat speakers like soundbars between the windows to play as rears. Is there any issue with that?

Can someone recommend any such speaker or soundbar? It should be able to take standard speaker wire (5 way binding posts) and play. I don't need any digital/analog inputs on them.

Thanks

Bad idea. Active (powered) soundbars wouldn't work. Passive soundbars might work by connecting only one of their three speakers, but you would be spending a fortune compared to two small satellite speakers.

@Possumgirl, Thanks for the reply.

Leaving aside the soundbars, can I use LCR type speakers as rears (vertically placed)? Here are some examples:

Paradigm Millenia 20, Millenia LP
DefTech Mythos XTR-40, Mythos Seven

These speakers have one pair of binding posts (1 channel). Tweeter is placed at the middle of the speaker, so I can mount it at ear level.

I know it is pricy/overkill for surrounds, but do you see any issue with such setup.

Thanks
