Hi guys,

I can't seem to find this anywhere, but how do I find the current firmware info of the soundbar? The Samsung manual doesn't share this info. Is there some weird key combo on the remote I can follow?

Thanks for any input.

Figured it out myself. For anyone else looking for this, hopefully the tip below will help!

Put the device in standby mode (wait for the red light on the woofer).
Press the DRC button for like 5-10 seconds.
You should see the HELLO message, followed by four different version numbers.

Not sure what all the version numbers indicate, but a couple of them should correspond to the numbering scheme used by Samsung on its website.

Enjoy!

Hi, can anyone explain what the two files available on the website are and whether you need them both? One says MINICOM .SSP (frontend) and the other Firmware .ROM (backend). I understand that they shouldn't be on the same USB drive together but other than that the instructions don't explain their purposes so I don't want to jump in and mess things up!

Cheers...

The SSP file is a standalone file while the ROM file is all inclusive. That is, the ROM file contains both the frontend and backend updates. Just to be on the safe side, update the SSP file first and the ROM file second.

BE VERY CAREFUL: as the instructions say, update one file at a time and don't put both files on the same USB stick.

Also, note that the soundbar supports only the FAT32 format. Not NTFS (for Windows).

Here are the steps that I followed.

1) If SSP file is available, update it first. Then ROM.
2) Take empty FAT32 formatted USB stick.
3) Upload the SSP file to the USB stick.
4) Put soundbar on some other input - like D-IN or HDMI - NOT USB.
5) Turn off soundbar (standby). Wait for red light on woofer.
6) Plug in USB.
7) Turn on soundbar and switch to USB. Let it update. Soundbar should say "DONE" once done.
8) Soundbar will power down on its own. Wait for red light on woofer.
9) Unplug USB key.
10) Then press the STOP key (square icon on the remote) for 5-10 seconds till screen shows "INIT OK".
11) Delete the SSP file from the USB key and upload the ROM file.
12) Repeat the above SSP steps #4-10 with ROM file. ROM file may take some time to read and will usually show a percentage indicator on the soundbar while updating. Like a 1-100% counter.

Use the instructions I posted earlier to verify the new firmware versions.

Be patient and have fun!

I know it's been some time since you last asked this question. But I was waiting to give the update some time before posting my experience. I actually updated to the above firmware (dated Aug 7, 2013) a day after I bought the soundbar. Didn't really know what the soundbar sounded like before the update. But I can confirm that the update hasn't caused any adverse effects. I have had the new firmware for almost 3 weeks now. Also, I am connected to the F8500 via ARC - no issues whatsoever. Hope this helps.

Here is the method directly from Smasung

Upgrade Method by USB flash drive
[ How to prepare F/W Update file via USB flash drive ]
1. Download the newest firmware file onto your computer from www.samsung.com.
2. If the firmware file is compressed (*.zip), the file should be uncompressed.
(*.ROM file is Backend upgrade file and *.ssp file is Frontend upgrade file)
3. Connect a USB flash drive to your computer.
4. If there are previous versions of firmware on USB flash drive, please delete them.
5. Copy the firmware file to USB flash drive. (Copy the file in USB root directory as below)
※ *.ROM file and *.ssp file must be copied to a different USB flash drive.
Please do not save them to the same USB flash drive.
※ Do not update all file at once, you can only do one at a time.

1. The following events may interrupt the upgrade process and
MAY RESULT IN PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE UNIT.
1) Unplugging the power cord while upgrades are being applied.
2) Power Outage while upgrades are being applied.
3) Remove the USB drive while upgrades are being applied.
2. Please do not save *ROM file and *.ssp file to the same USB flash drive.
3. Please do not re-name firmware file.
We do not guarantee any defects caused by re-naming firmware file.

[ How to upgrade the SAT ]
1. Power on the device. Move to USB Mode by using Functio key or remote control.
2. Insert a USB drive containing the firmware upgrade into the USB port on the main unit.
3. Firmware will be upgraded automatically and then the main unit will turn off automatically after
completing the firmware upgrade.
4. Once upgrading the product software is completed, the initializing is needed.
Turn off the product(standby mode) and then press stop(■) button for a while(about 5 seconds)
to reset the product.
After that, you can see the "INI" message on the display.

HW-F450 has problem with Windows 8.1 blue tooth driver.  The firmware upgrade resolves the issue.
