So I shopped around for the ideal setup I wanted. A small TV near my PC, that could do netflix and streaming, and a cheap soundbar to go with it, because small TVs have bad sound
So I settled on the new Vizio 24" Smart TV. It's got what I wanted, except good audio outputs. Just an HDMI
So not knowing of ARC or anything I got it, then got what I thought would be the appropriate middleman:
Hooked that hdmi up to that, then the optical to the new ZVOX 220
I thought it would work. But try as I might it didn't. I set the TV out to PCM, I toggled the converter between Pass, 2ch and 5.1 and tried all. Silence
So what I am reading is all about this ARC mess, that somehow I need some sort of decrypter for the TV to even send out an optical audio signal, and the ZVOX does not have dolby digital decoding either
Should I return the converter?
I am stuck with analog for now which is lousy, weak from the TV with an audible hiss, a pathetic analog signal for it to try to amplify. My IPOD connected sounds fantastic, loud and powerful though.
