Help me choose a new sound bar

Hi,

I realize this question must have been asked before, but I'll go for it anyway
I currently own the Sony HT-CT150, hooked up to a 65" TV.
I'm fairly happy with it, but I was wondering if I could upgrade to something that would give me a better listening experience. Needless to say (since I own a sound bar ), I am not an audiophile so please excuse my poor terminology...
My requirements are:
1. Good vocal clarity
2. Mostly used for watching TV and movies. Music is a lower priority.
3. I don't like very high bass / "boomy" sound, so a loud subwoofer is definitely not a requirement.
4. Should have good audio quality in low-medium volume levels.
5. Preferably would like to stay under $500.

Any thoughts? Perhaps I should just stick to my HT-CT150?
I was looking at the Pioneer SP-SB23W. Would it be a worthy upgrade to the Sony?
I can also consider a non-sound bar setup, with the exclusion of rear speakers since the only possible placement for those would be on the ceiling and it's too much hassle to set up...

This is the best sub $1000 I was able to find. It sells for $220 on newegg and best buy will price match them. The sonos sounds better, but cost $1300 to get the sub as well. The energy combo is great.
