At that price point you would think they would throw in DTS support. A rather glaring omission IMO.

Creative said it does DTS:X as I asked specifically about it.

My understanding is it does DTS:X, it's just not highlighted in the marketing material that focuses on Atmos. Here is that press release: http://www.creative.com/soniccarrier...-sonic-carrier

As a "every person" would not been prudent to have at least two classes for soundbars? One, as you already have, for the "ultimate soundbar" along with another for the "real world market"? I sincerely doubt that $5000+ soundbar will be a top seller at Best Buy and Crutchfield's.

Question, does it have some sort of cover. May look super techie cool but most probably not in a nice living room. Just saying.......

LG OLED 55EG9100 HDTV, DirecTV HD DVR Genie HR44, DirecTV AM21 OTA Receiver, Sony BDPS6500 Blu-Ray, Bose Soundtouch 130 HTC (Sound Bar), Panamax MR5100 Power Manager, Harmony Elite Remote, Monoprice AV Cables

Excellent review as it were.
CEDIA is not a soundbar or even a consumer electronics show. That's CES. For the most part CEDIA is just about 100% a show full of expensive stuff for rich people. No point going looking for best mainstream soundbar at CEDIA, it's not going to be found there.

I've heard the Dimension at CEDIA 2015. That's a good one. Focal Dimension Soundbar and Subwoofer at CEDIA 2014

I reviewed a number of soundbars, from passive GoldenEar to MartinLogan to Vizio to Sonos to Samsung to Denon to Yamaha and more.

Demo rooms at CEDIA are all the same size, I don't have the exact dimensions but I'm thinking in the area of 16 x 20 x 9 or so. Maybe someone knows for sure. Of course the show floor demo (there were two X-Fi Sonic Carriers, one in the sound room and one outside) was in a huge room i.e. a convention center.

I was the first person to pre-order one from their booth on the first day of CES '16, They remembered me at CEDIA and I told that I wanted serial #1. One of the things I was told was they were waiting for FCC approval, which they now have. Over the past few years every time I heard the sound bar demo'd it sounded better and better, they continued to make changes and improvements from the one I had first heard at CES. I just got an email from them and they're sending a pair of their Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones ($199) for waiting.

The Focal Dimension with sub unit is the one I'm replacing with the Creative. I'm seriously hoping the jump in capabilities will be worth it, as even in my large living room, the Focal really rocks. My pre-purchase price was way lower than the final retail @ only $2000, so I'm hoping at that price point there's nothing to argue really.

I'm kind of surprised that Creative hasn't done something like this before. They have been employing some of the best acoustic engineers to try and re-ignite acoustic engineering in a game industry that gave up on sound when they lost Direct Sound and A3D. They have a pretty deep talent pool that has been largely going to waste, this kind of thing is definitely up their alley.

Color me intrigued. I just read about this for the first time in the Best of CEDIA post. I always dismissed soundbars in the past but it looks like they've come a long way. I currently have a conventional 7.2 setup but if a solution exists where I can get similar sound from a single soundbar and subwoofer and eliminate the associated equipment, I'm all ears. The price tag is cringeworthy but the simplicity could justify the cost.

Is there anything else like this that currently exists, maybe not as sophisticated but can decode Atmos and sounds decent?

My always evolving setup | Samsung PN64H5000 Plasma | Sony STR-DH800 AVR | Energy Take Classic 7.2 | Comcast X1 | PS4 | Panasonic DMP-BD60

While sound bars have improved they still do not come close to a traditional system. I would rather have a good basic 5.1 system over this sound bar and you could get a 5.1.2 system that beats it easily for 1/4 the price.

The beauty of a sound bar is ease of set up and installation and it will give decent sound in areas where a traditional system is not practical or desired. To answer your question, yes there are other Atmos sound bars. Sony, Samsung, LG, Yamaha and Nakamichi make some. Most of them have some limitations in one aspect or another. The Creative sound bar is the most complete sound bar I have seen. It might not be the best in every aspect but it seems to to everything very well.

And when you factor in all the regular systems that are set up less than ideal, this actually has the potential to sound better. There are lot of urban dwellers and near suburbanites who pay a lot of money to live where they do with not a lot of room. Looked at new apartments or condos recently? They are not making them any bigger..
If nothing else this product sends the message to other companies; "Bring it".

"Oooh a puzzle box, I love puzzles"/ "Are you familiar with 'The Lament Configuration"/ "Actually I'm lousy at puzzles..."

I agree, many systems are not set up properly! I am not sure about many condo and apartments. I tend to work for customers on the other side of the inequality equation and their condos and houses tend to be getting larger😀 Although you might be right I did work on a smallish 3000 sq/ft penthouse condo in Seattle this summer, but I am sure its price was way above my pay grade.

I'm intrigued by the potential of beam-forming soundbars. My 5.1 quasi-ITU surround music system is something I don't want to disrupt and my rack is full. I would love to add a UHD player and immersive sound without integrating them into anything but my LG C7 oled display. $5800 is very reasonable if it gets the job done.

The more I read about this soundbar the more I'm intrigued. But the use of the word reasonable regarding price is inextricably tied to one's own circumstances. For some this will be very reasonable, while for others it will be rather expensive for what it is.

I am also intrigued especially given the review and apparent no need for a separate subwoofer but the price and appearance are killers.

Because it comes with a huge (for a soundbar) dual-10" wireless sub is why...

  • "........the cost of an additional subwoofer is $2199."

Looks like there's a sub out on the back panel. Does this mean you can connect your own sub and not have to buy their $2100 one (if you wanted to add a second that is)?

Surprised no one has mentioned the lack of room EQ. A soundbar, with all it's placement and design compromises, needs EQ even more then a standard speaker system.

Especially for $5800..... IMHO, it looks like something a single and super-awesome-extreme-mega-gamer would find attractive.

“Audio as a hobby is dying, largely by its own hand. As far as the real world is concerned, high-end audio lost its credibility during the 1980s, when it flatly refused to submit to the kind of basic honesty controls (double-blind testing, for example) that had legitimized every other serious scientific endeavor since Pascal. [This refusal] is a source of endless derisive amusement among rational people and of perpetual embarrassment for me” - Gordon Holt

The companion app has room correction built-in using your phones mic. How well it works who knows? Maybe a third party mic can be connected for better results.

According to Andrew Jones phone mics are surprisingly accurate, and especially in the bass region where it matters since you are correcting below Schroeder.
