I am wondering about the authenticity of the copy of Avatar 3D that I picked today locally.

I cannot find any pictures of the underside of the disc anywhere around. All of my other 3D BD's are completely silver on the data side. My Avatar is silver but has a white ring in the center on the underside. The image on the front looks like the pictures I see online.

Is there a way to tell the pirated versions vs the real versions?

The disc underside is not dark blue or black like some pirated discs, it is silver and seems to have that protective oil finish that other authentic BD's have.

Can someone that owns a known authentic copy confirm the hard-to-read numbers onthe bottom of their disk, if their disk's underside has a white ring in the middle on the back, and if the BD case's lettering is kind of grayish/faint?

Thanks in advance. If this has been covered before, I am sorry.

If there is another thread I could not find, please reference the link if not too much trouble.

If you have a program that can decrypt Blu-rays, you can check to see if it still has all of that ridiculous encryption on it. If not, it's a fake.

My MBP only has a DVD SuperDrive and no BD drive. The other desktop computer that I own also only has a DVD drive.

Is there any other method(s)?

What kind of case did it come in? Commercial BDs come in Vortex or Viva Elite cases, knockoffs usually come in, well, knockoff cases.

That's hardly a way to spot a fake. You can buy (or switch) cases.

Mine came with an Elite BD case.

The "not for sale, promotional use only" banner is kind of purple-looking in color.

The picture above seems to show the Australian version.

My cover only has the Blu-Ray 3D tag in the top-left corner and the promotional verbiage at the bottom.

If the disc label is silk-screened, it's a genuine item. If it's printed (inkjet), it's a fake.

I am not sure I know the difference between them. I have seen DVD's that were confirmed as fakes that looked really, really close to the genuine thing that were inkjet printed.

The front of the disc is a little lighter than in hue than I expected but the warning paragraph looks sharp and the font clearly written.

Does anyone have the inner white circle on the back of their US release disc?

I will post some pictures of the case and disc tonight as well.

Looks like the lettering describing the movie on the back of the case is a grayish, light color and is kind of faint-looking. Can someone confirm if that is how their lettering is on the back with a picture or in looking at it?

Printed (inkjet) labels are not water proof. Silk-screened labels are.

Is it on a BD50 disk? Put it in a player and check the bit rate, that could help. I just ripped a 3d copy with my ps3 the other night and the file size was around 46.8 Gigs if i remember. A lot of the bootleg blu rays are not full BD rips. The source is bluray but it has a much lower bit rate.

The only BD player I have is my 3D Samsung BD-C6900. Is there a way to see about the bit rate with any BD player?

Do you actually have this disc? My copy came straight from Panasonic (well, from some fulfillment agency). Its cover is distinctly less-sharp and more "photocopy-looking" than just about any other genuine disc I've seen.

Mine is the freebee from Panny as well and I agree with your comment re. the cover. Also, for Audiofiler--My disc DOES have the white inner ring. Kinda sounds to me like you got the real thing.

Well, if your c6900 is anything like mine, if it plays the disc fine then it's probably original, if it has difficulty reading the disc consistently, then it's probably a copy. My C6900 has been absolutely terrible at reading burned blu-ray discs.

i have questioned seller, but as of yet no response, which now leads me to think............ well i am not sure.

it does not look like any blu ray i have ever seen before, no dvd either.
its not a printed off sticky label either, it looks screen printer with a wet orange peel over it.
the case is funny too, it says real on it, which why would it say that?

^^^ Most likely. Authentic Blu-ray discs also do not usually have any typos on them...like "DO NOT DUPICATE" in your case...

Bet this wouldn't be bootlegged so much if they'd just make the real discs easier to BUY!

The disc label is off-center and appears to be printed on a PC printer. If the ink smudges with moisture, it's inkjet printing. If not, it's thermal (laser) printing. Either way it's a fake.

Definitely a "fugazi". Was Avatar 3D released in the UK? If you have a blu-ray rom drive, check to see the size. If it happens to be around 48GB it's probably a full ISO RIP. Assuming it's the full ISO copy, for viewing purposes you've got what you want.. for collection purposes, ugh...not sure how much you paid, but it was probably too much. I'd definitely contact ebay about it.

27.00 for fake junk that is stolen intelectual property!

I would have demanded a full refund then reported the SOAB to Ebay for theft and fraud.

These people are stealing, plain and simple and profiteering from their crimes whilst the rest of us, including the film makers work for an honest living. They shouldn't get 1 cent from any of us.

You need to report the seller and get him banned. Get your money back and use your copy for evidence. Here is my N. American copy I got from Panasonic. It seems like your's is a European bootleg due to the rating stamps.
