"Gimmicks" as in pop out moments. When something leaped out the farthest from the screen towards you.

For me, one is the moment in under the sea when a creature reaches out to you towards the end of the documentary. Another is from tangled in the 'glowing lights' sequence. Yet another is in the "3d test mini movies" in despicable me when a ladder is seen hanging out incredibly far from the screen. And finally yet another is in a scene from yogi bear, yogi throwing out some stuff towards you.

I do like the gimmicky popouts too. My favorites are the Yogi Bear slowmotion floating nacho scene and fireworks scene that makes everyone duck. Yogi has lots of popout moments and is my favorite 3d movie for 3d demos... fun stuff.

My vote goes for the Yogi Bear nacho scene as well. Fantastic pop out and ZERO ghosting - which is rare for me on my Sony HX800.

YES this is what i was referring to! In one of these sequences you can see a ladder hanging out really far from the screen. I think these sequences can also be viewed under the "3d test mini movies" (or some similar name) from the main menu itself.

A few of my favorites:

- As others have mentioned, the Yogi Bear/flying goodies scene
- The potato fish closeup from Under the sea
- Captain America's shield flying straight at you (hope this works as well at home)
- Clu's hand reaching out towards you at the end of Tron Legacy
- Bob's Big Break from Monsters v. Aliens has quite a few pop out moments

Oh and if it's not already been mentioned, cloudy with a chance of meatballs has a good amount of these pop moments too.

Was I watching the same movie? I don't recall any thing popping out.

Same goes for Tron. Saw it at the theater and home and kept looking for the more 3D button, but it wasn't there.

There's a scene towards the beginning where he's trying to get the FLDSMDFR working and he reaches under it to catch the hamburger. His hands as he reaches out have GREAT pop.

I really like the countdown at the beginning of IMAX Hubble 3D. The numbers come way out of the screen!

That's the official intro for all IMAX 3D movies. I won't repeat ones already said.

-Hubble 3D, intro credits the stars break apart and fly toward you.
-Monster's vs. Aliens we can't forget the old 3D classic, paddle ball.

And ofcourse Under the Sea 3D is just filled with glorious 3D. The potato cod is the most impressive 3D image you'll see. But the whole documentary has incredible depth which is just as important. Half the scenes look like you're looking into a fish tank that goes a mile into the distance.

Sony KDL-70R550A (passive 3D tv)
Denon x4000 (amazing sound correcting software)
Klipsch RF-62IIs (amazing horns)
Klipsch RC-62II (so clear)
Klipsch RS-41IIs (so full)
SVS PC12-NSD + Klipsch RW12d (so boom)

Tangled the menu is by far the best pop out, the lights go through the TV and right over your head.

HOUSE OF WAX paddle ball man
THE BUBBLE floating beer tray
FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN gall bladder dangling from spear
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 opening titles
JAWS 3-D severed arm
METALSTORM telescopic robotic arm shooting green acid

Movies like COMIN' AT YA!, TRASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS, DYNASTY and REVENGE OF THE SHOGUN WOMEN are wall to wall gimmicks.

Modern 3-D movies don't do much of this, but in the 1980's especially, they went crazy.....

I don't need lots of gimmicks, but today's 3-D movies don't even have as much depth as the older ones....

I would add the opening credits of IMAX: Grand Canyon Adventure, with the bubbles coming far out of the screen.
Also agree with the fish scene in IMAX: Under the Sea, the Yogey Bear food spillage scene and the planets in Tahiti. I just got Under the Sea this week and laughed when I saw that potato cod coming right at me.

i like the stuff in "The Mask" (1961) - brilliant work for probably low cost - red-cyan glasses required KEEP THE AUDIO LEVEL WAY DOWN - as it sounds like the average level is 10dB over 0

That was a good one, especially considering the movie was a conversion.

FINAL DESTINATION 5 has some pretty good gimmicks too.
