First off, I just want to say I went in with low expectations with this movie. I just rented it, expecting another Drive Angry level of enjoyment out of it

Let me tell you, the movie itself was awesome. And I'm not even a big horror fan. The 3D was lax in the beginning but really took off with plenty of pop out and depth in the second half

I highly recommend this movie (not around kids though). Very entertaining

Note: By the way I did not see the original Fright Night so I went in with practically no bias whatsoever in that way

What is the meaning of life?

Yes, I really like this movie. The movie is dark, night scenes obviously. Movie is similar to original plot from what I remember of the original years ago. I did not expect much from the 3D, but was very happy with it.

Totally agree! I watched last night and was pleasantly surprised. The movie itself was fun- it looked like Collin Farrell was having a blast with his role.

The 3d added to the fun... The first daylight "explosion" was a huge wow moment.

I guess I'm still more fond of the original with Roddy McDowall as Peter Vincent. This new one was ok, but I have not seen it in 3D.

For those who may not know, there is a cameo in the new film by original vampire Chris Sarandon. Nice touch!

Now you guys have me conflicted. I'm not much of a Collin Farrell fan, so had no interest in seeing this movie. But after reading the 3D comments on this board I may have to get over my aversion to him and watch it.

Same boat as you but honestly you forget about him once the story starts rolling. My Wife loved this one and the effects were astounding in 3D. Especially the ending!!!!

We will whip this one out every October for sure now.

I watched it last night, the movie was good, but you might have to crank up the brightness on this one , since a lot of the scenes are real dark, and the glasses turns dark too!

Didn't have a problem with the darkness of the film...could always see what was going on. Only issue I have (and this is true of any dark film) is the softness and lack of detail. That said, I was able to follow the action much better than a lot of poorly lit 2D films. Didn't notice any darkening due to glasses. (Passive LG 6500)

I'm surprised more of you didn't have an issue with the darkness of this film. I thougth some of the scenes early on (particularly the ones inside the house at night) were nearly unwatchable in 3D. And I have a brand new, bright as hell, Epson 3010 projector. Everything I've watched to this point, including PIrates 3D and Narnia 3D has been plenty bright. I don't know if I had a bad copy or what, but the scenes were really, really dark...too dark. I did enjoy the film, though.

It was too dark, but a decent flick to watch. The 3d was just ok in my opinion, final destination 5 was much better, 3d wise.

I'm really looking forward to Final Destination...looks like the film even had a decent score on Rotten Tomatoes, which surprised me. Hopefully the 3D is better on that one than this one! I saw some other online reviews that cite this film being too dark for 3D as well, so I'm glad it's not just me lol. I thought it was something wrong with my projector at first! So far 3D has been a real joy on this Epson, though, so I'm glad everything is okay with my gear.

I found it dark as well - almost unwatchable at times. Must have changed my tv settings a dozen times. I also found the beginning of the movie to have a bluish tint to it. Movie was good though and a couple of good 3d scenes - especially the parts where there are embers coming right through the screen.

Same here, in fact I need to make sure I put all my settings back where I had them, cause things were looking really good before this damn movie lol. I was reading about the method they used to shoot it, and it made a lot of sense as to why it didn't translate to a great 3D image. Oh well, I'm looking forward to Final Destination 5 in 3D...that will be my first 3D rental from DirecTV this weekend

I also had to change 3D settings due to severe ghosting. Once aligned, was better but movie was indeed dark...I mean literally, not as in dark mood type

Thought a bit boring. Final Destination 5 much better 3D effects and movie overall IMHO.

just watched the 3d bluray.. i am a big fan of the original and really enjoyed this remake. it really was too dark image-wise, though. the 3d seemed buried underneath and the black levels seemed more grey in the first sections, although the final scenes (even though in a dark setting) seemed just fine; the first 2/3 of the film are more murky than just dark.

Hmm, I was actually kinda hoping this was going to be a turd of a movie simply because I loved the original. I only got part way through the new one and it seems to be really good, albeit very dark. I get the sense so far that this one is not a funny movie, whereas the original has a very B movie campy-ness to it. Perhaps it was unintentionally funny in parts, but if you liked the new one, definitely check out the original. Best line that I use on a regular basis and in a condescending sorta way - "You're so cool, Brewster!"
