Try checking Best Buy next week; they typically sell new movies at a pretty significant discount for the first few days and I've gotten some good deals on new 3D releases.

Best Buy has it on sale. Instead of their regular price of $44.98, you can get it for just $42.99.

PETER JACKSON: The theatrical versions are the definitive versions.

Yes but I'll be curious to see what the price is on Tuesday. Again, they often list the price high for pre-orders, lower it significantly during the first week and then raise it back to the MSRP again.

Anybody know the deal with it? On Amazon it said the release date was 1/17, so did Best Buy. Best Buy had no mention of it in their Sunday ad and even on their website, there's no image of the cover and no mention of it being available in stores, and now Amazon says it's back ordered...

Anybody know something I don't?

I saw this in the theater and the effects were excellent. A lot of 3D gimmicks but still, excellent!

Image seems a little soft as if from a low quality print transfer. Since this was shot with the Cameron/PACE 3d camera I would have expected a better image.
Bonus features are the same as on the 2d version.

How is the 3D? The image was soft on the first 2D release.

I watched it last night. I thought the 3D was pretty decent. The 3D had it's moments of good pop out and nice depth. I didn't notice any crosstalk. I definitely enjoyed the new DTS MA track.

This movie had many popout scenes and the 3D was good. The Trex chasing scene was great as well as the toothy fish flying at you. The story itself was far fetched but still a fun movie.

Oh my! I didn't realize they put a new DTS MA track on this release. There's my reason to buy it ASAP!!

Got mine from Amazon yesterday. The film is your standard lightweight fluff fare; nothing particularly memorable but not offensive in any way either.

In terms of 3D, it was a natively shot production so it exhibits good depth throughout. It also has quite a few "gimmick" pop-out moments. The movie did exhibit some ghosting on my Samsung C8000 plasma; not surprising given I have an early generation 3D set but still nothing particularly distracting.

Given the dearth of good native 3D content, I'm glad I got this one.

Just picked it up at Fry's, passed it up yesterday, don't know why. There were only just a couple of scenes that were grainy, but then it would switch immediately back to great quality. Must be just certain "shots". But overall HD quality is very good, some striking face detail on closeups, very colorful. And 3D was among the top tier as far as demo 3D.

This movie is basically a 3D spectacle. There is no reason to ever watch this movie in 2D. It was made as sort of a "amusement park" type spectacle. I mean it's got a 3D mine cart ride in it if you need any further proof.

Anyway, when RealD 3D first started coming to theaters I was excited, and this was the very first 3D movie I ever saw in theaters so I had some nostalgia for it. the 3D bluray does not dissapoint. Great 3D depth, a good amount of in your face gimmick shots, and just sort of a fun "ride" type movie. Don't hesitate if you just want to experience some great 3D. It is very fun as long as it is being watched in 3D.

Finally watched this at home and it's a thumbs up for the 3D. As far as the movie itself, it's a good popcorn flick to boot. I saw this in a theater but had forgotten most of what I saw so it was just like watching it for the first time. Lots of pop outs and good depth.

I finally got the 3D BD and watched last night. A mixed bad, really. The 3D effects were great, some of the best on disc but there was a bit of noise, etc. that caused the PQ to be average at best.
