It is usually just a place holder, Amazons way of saying it is coming before xmas 2012. If they thought it was coming in 2013 they may have put it up for pre order with a 1-1-13 date. Also, means nothing because international rights are owned by FOX and domestic rights by Paramount.

fox owns both the international and us release of avatar. paramount only did that with titanic, and not avatar.

Yup, this means we'll be getting it in the States around that time. Bad sign if the DE release only includes the theatrical cut, though. I held off on getting the extended collector's edition because I wanted it "future-proof" (don't own a 3dtv yet). Studios do sometimes handle their overseas home video releases differently. Blade Runner, for example, had only The Final Cut in the U.K. Blu.

It's not like disc space would be an issue. Titanic is even longer than Avatar's longest cut, and I'm assuming they're gonna fit that onto a single BD-50 unless they split it up right after "Well, Mr. Ismay, it looks like you may get your headlines" for old times' sake (kidding, kidding).

Oh sorry, my brain was trying to say to Fang Zei or whatever user name that it doesn't matter were getting Titanic this year that two different studios are involved, but I did a poor job conveying my thoughts cause I was thinking too fast

Avatar almost started the modern 3D movie/TV era and in a brilliant marketing move isn't available for general purchase until after most americans have lost interest in 3D and TV makers are almost embarassed to advertise the feature. I thought Cameron was out to promote 3D. His Avatar deal with Panasonic has left a bad taste in many of our mouths. Glad it's finally going to be available in a non-bootleg, non-overpriced e-bay edition. Who would have thought Avatar would be beaten to our home setups by PIRANHA 3DD. Thanks James. frown.gif

No difference at all.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable Special/Extended Edition release in 3D. Then I might actually buy it again.

I have to agree, I'm waiting for the extended version also. I enjoyed the extended version immensely, with more story filled in (like what happened at the school). I won't be buying 3 copies of the movie, it's just not worth it for me, since I have enough 3D material for my occasional "3D fix". I just wish there was some word on when/if it will be released. The theatrical version has been out long enough, and I've seen it advertised for $19.99, so it is probably time for the studios to get the next money fix from the public pretty soon. That is the only reason I can conclude for them not releasing the extended version in the first place.

I bought the 3D Blu-ray a few months ago thinking an extended version wouldn't be of much interest to me anyway. Unfortunately I'm finding I enjoy the movie more every time I watch it. While it shares some obvious themes with previous stories/movies, I think it's pretty brilliant. When the extended version is released, I'm afraid I'll fall victim to the double dip (and have only myself to blame).

Avatar 3D Blu Ray Combo

Anybody know where to find the best deal on this? Also, how is the 3D depth.

Anyone who says that this disc is not the reference 3D blu-ray is crazy. You want to know about depth? It's like watching a window into Pandora for 2 hours. Watched it again a few nights ago and I was glued to the screen. Glued. Get it now if you don't already have it.

Absolutely correct. If you want to introduce someone to 3D via TV this is the go to flick.

Time to watch in again in 3D. Bought it cheap last week BF weekend @BB.
I watched this in 3D at the cinema when it came out. I have a feeling it'll look better in my home theater.

I don't know what I'm waiting for. I loved it in imax when it came out, and got the 2D blu-ray, but since going 3D, I haven't picked up the 3D blu-ray. Although the story is admittedly cliche and corny, the visuals to me make it worth watching every so often.
