Battleship has greatly renewed my interest in 3D conversion. I avoided watching Battleship on bluray for a long time due to the panned remarks by lots of forum members, but decided to give it try using my new Sony 590 player that does 2D-3D conversion. The 3D was great on the wide pans of scenery and the ships and added just enough spatial recognition to make the movie far more tolerable. Frankly, I've hated the idea of 2D to 3D conversions of movies (Titanic changed my mind), and thought the 2D to 3D conversions done on the fly by bluray players and PC software, were just gimmicks to create a simple 3D window without much 3D. But the algorithm used in the Sony 590 is better than anything I've seen so far (and better than the 3D Bee--which really caused me eyestrain). I've started digging out all my old favorites and watching them in 3D conversion, and I'm fascinated by how much I enjoy them again.
