Forgot to mention that Racing games work great in 3D. Thinking iRacing, Asetto Corsa, Game Stock 2013, etc
You stole the comment I was going to make!
IMO, it takes a clever director to get good results in 3D, and the modern trend of TV advertisements (quick scene changes, almost a series of blipverts) is anathema to stereovision. Ouch! Even sportscasting is like that to some extent; often the camera is so far out that perspective is lost or a good shot needs to jump around to different angles which can be disorienting.
However, many gaming genres are PERFECT in 3D, and in-the-cockpit driving is on the top of that list. I happen to be an iRacer at present, but the other titles Louis noted are equally stunning.
Still, the 'showcase' title I'd put in front of any 3D skeptic would be Portal 2 (or the original, but show 'em Portal 2). Every little detail is perspective-correct, and ... looking into a portal at yourself looking into a portal at yourself looking at ... is as unsettling as it should be and never quite was with a flat picture.
Yes, I can, actually. The developers came right out and said as much. I got the impression from their statements that the game was actually rendering internally at full 1080p/60 in 3D already, but they were forced to downscale it to 720p in order to send it across HDMI. They said a firmware update to the system (to enable the later versions of HDMI encoding) and a small patch to the game is all that's required to spit out 1080p/60/3D.
This is the wrong thread for this, hence my late reply. If you wish to discuss it further, let's take it to one of the 3D gaming threads. In fact, I believe Trine actually has a thread all its own. Cheers.
