Terminator 2 getting a 3D conversion

Looks like this is finally happening. To the delight of some and the chagrin of others. Regardless of opinion of whether it *should* be done, Cameron, as with The Titanic, is overseeing the conversion, with the primary work being done by StereoD. Slated for a brief theatrical re-release in 2016, then presumably on to 3D Blu Ray.

So if this is of equal quality to the conversion work done for The Titanic I'll welcome and look forward to it. Although given a choice, I'd likely opt for a Blu Ray - 1080p or UHD either one - of The Abyss. C'mon Cameron, a little love for a noteworthy film in your resume'.

I'm still waiting on I Am Legend with Arnold Schwarzenegger, they had it on the Conan DVD credits before the movie was to be released in 1999, but it never happened. I have to settle for Will Smith.

Would be nice if we could just get a Blu ray of The Abyss and True Lies already.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Cameron oversee a 3D conversion of Aliens.

I am itchy every time there is an upgrading on an old classic movie (i.e DVD to blue ray; blue ray 1080p to 4K up conversion; blue ray 2d to 3d) and bought the newest version when available. But every time I did, I regretted afterwards. Keep asking why not spend the money to a new movie? I think a lot of you have the same behavior I have.

I have a few 2D to 3D movies. I cannot view the whole movie on 3D. It is just for fun to watch no more than half hour, then I change it back to 2d viewing. I hesitate 3D will keep going or not.

I will definitely be getting this in 3D!

Talked last night to a 3D enthusiast friend of mine (at first I thought it was a joke) but realized today there's apparently an official poster for the 2017 re-release in 3D.

But I'm a bit confused. According to latest rumors The Abyss is finally coming to (UHD) Blu-ray in 2017, too, but I haven't heard that James Cameron has any plans for a 3D version.

So we will get Terminator 2 in 3D but not The Abyss?

We still don't even have a Blu ray release of The Abyss, I'll take any improvement over the DVD and laserdisc at this point.

There hasn't been a 3D conversion since...I can't remember...Predator? These went out of style a few years ago with the cost involved. I'm not a huge fan of conversions but I do see them as an improvement over 2D so I'll be picking this one up when it finally arrives on Blu ray, maybe this time next year. Cameron has money to throw away, I'll bet he's producing the conversion out of his own pocket.

I have to disagree with the T1000 comment above. It looked very good back when the movie was released and it's held up very well. The original effects in '84, not so much. Especially the close up eye removal scene.

Neither am I, but this ultimately depends on the company that's doing the conversion.

In this particular case it's probably going to be the Cameron Pace Group - http://www.cameronpace.com/v2/ - and I'm totally confident that James Cameron will supervise the conversion personally, so I anticipate an excellent conversion work, we'll find difficult to tell apart from the "real thing".

Besides, I'm really looking forward to see T2 in 3D and with full Super35 1.85:1 image aspect ratio.

I still have the 4:3 LaserDisc (which reveals that Arnie is honest with Sarah when he gives her his hand - because he tucked his gun into his waistband!), so there are two innovations probably coming along with T2 in 3D.

More information on T2 in 3D: http://www.theterminatorfans.com/terminator-2-3d/

(at least James Cameron keeps 3D alive with vintage titles, I wished there were other directors following his lead...)

How about producers? Word is that the 3D conversion for Dawn of the Dead is excellent.

I don't understand. If 3D is "dead" and not popular, why would Hollywood invest money in a 3D conversion? I guess truth is where the money is.

Likely this 3D conversion was produced by Cameron again same as Titanic was and Cameron has lots of money to blow on 3D. I might actually see this in theater if I can find it. Of course I'll add the Blu ray when it gets here.

3D is alive and well to the Movie studios, especially Disney, especially since they can charge extra $$$ on the tickets

it's the TV manufacturers who believe that 3D is dead in the home, and have therefore removed 3D from the 2017 TV's

but what's weird is that the majority of 2017 UHD players also support 3D playback

so there does appear to be a disconnect between the manufacturers, many who make TV's as well as UHD players

This movie in 3D and the Abyss in UHD / BT2020 and the Cameron universe will be in balance.

definitely going to see this in 3D and will buy the 3D BD.

The whole death of 3D has been a fun ride, just watched Resident Evil 3D and Underworld Blood Wars in 3D. no US releases, both imported

Yes. i'm still pissed about the Underworld Blood Wars and Resident Evil Final Chapter releases. Originally SOny was going to release the UHD BD with the 3D BD. As well as the 2D BD and UV UHD code. Like some of the other Sony releases. So I was disappointed to learn that Sony removed the 3D BD from the release.

I ended up importing both 3D copies, the BB copy of Underworld arrived yesterday and it was only UHD. this is ok, I wanted the ATMOS track vs. DTS-MA on the 3D BD but was hoping it would be like the Ghostbusters 3D/UHD combo from Sony.

The Samsung KS 8500 is a 2016 model year TV. It is not a 2017 model year TV. The model may still be available new. I do not know if it is still being manufactured. But my point is that no model year 2017 3D TVs have been offered for sale. A 4K UHD player may be able to play a blu ray 3D movie but not in 3D if it is not a 3D player.

If there is a model year 2017 3D player name it.

The Panasonic EX-750 supports 3D with active shutter system for 2017 and there are the glasses-free Izon models so there are still flat panel 3D tv's for 2017. UHD players = 3D players I think that was already answered, they can do both. It doesn't cost them much with the HDMI chips to support 3D, displays it does cost more to support 3D.

Also, I think Don was referring to K8500 UHD player, not KS8500 which is a display.

Sorry, I thought the discussions were about TVs. You are all correct that model year 2017 3D players are still being released. And while I was thinking OLED I was not thinking about LED TVs.

Well, after I posted that there were Panasonic 2017 3DTV's, I was just looking to see where you could buy the EX-750 3D TV but didn't see any place that had them. Anyone know if they're released yet and in store or are they not out yet?
