Use the Force, Luke.

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

I'm also wanting the best deal for a 60" Elite...I know Cleveland Plasma has a great price but I've been holding out in the hopes that it would drop into the $3000's range

as far as CES...they always hype their presentations as being the greatest but in reality when they hit the market they come with flaws not discussed at CES...Panasonic plasmas anyone?...Samsung?...so people should use CES as a general reference but don't drink the Kool-Aid...you need to wait months after a product is released to see their true flaws (and strengths)

Titus.....very true.

Then you get the firmware updates that's suppose to fix whatever is wrong with them.

Then the flat panel shootout...and more reason for firmware updates.

By the time you get through all that, its time for the next new model announcements.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

exactly...I bought the VT30 shortly after it was released...funny how they didn't mention the Fbr or color decoding issues at CES or the A-Board replacement that I had done to fix Fbr...I regret not waiting a few months but I was impatient...I would have bought the Elite if I had been patient enough

hopefully the Elite will drop further in price...I would probably sell my VT30 at that time

It'll be interesting to learn what you can get for your vt30 given that the 65" can be had new for $2500-2600. Not trying to be discouraging as I am fence sitting between the 65" Panny or 70" elite now, or waiting until after I see what CES brings.

Stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder.

As much as I want a elite it's getting harder and harder to deny the vt30 with the price it's at. For the 70 inch elite to make sence to me it needs to be much closer to 4000.00 - 4500.00. I"m not sure when we will see that price, if ever...

So, yes, the VT is now a steal. As for the Elite reaching $4500 at 70", you are basically talking about $1200 or so the best deal anyone has probably negotiated. Admittedly that will take a price cut from Sharp.

What I kind of wonder, though, is whether 2012 won't bring a variant of the announced-then-canceled 935 model. I still am firmly convinced Sharp is leaving tens of millions on the table with the current framework and if someone at Sharp concludes the same thing as I have, there'll be such a model in 2012, it'll retail around $4000-4500, and it'll have around 90-95% of what the Elite does (and probably will exceed it in some small ways, for example it won't have a 1980s Elite looking in its bezel and will probably have a more robust internet feature).

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

how is there no out?...if you buy from Cleveland Plasma or any other legit dealer and you are not happy I hear Sharp has been very easy to deal with in terms of either getting another set or even buying it back from you?

I agree about buying locally but there's also the issue of sales tax which could potentially add $350+ to the price...it's a tradeoff I guess...peace of mind in returns with no questions asked for 30 days or a cheaper price and the hopes that you don't have to deal with any returns

Many states (including where I live) now require you to report web purchases for tax purposes. So there may be no avoiding the tax...

I can wait. What I can't do is pay over $3500 for any tv. I would love this tv but only if that price, even if it's later next year as a floor model or open box. Every other tv out doesn't compare, so I will wait.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

I think most states say that you're suppose to report it but until congress requires etailers to collect it, I don't see how they can enforce it.

I thought there was legislation in process to do just this. Does anyone know if it passed?

With the 4% RewardZone credit on my 70" purchase, the net total came out to be less than my pre-tax price. It's not cash in the bank as you have to spend that credit at the store, but that's not an issue for me.

I live in NY. A sales person, in best buy in Indianapolis, Indiana, said he can sell me the 70 for $5900 including shipping. I'm still waiting for the $5500 below mark, but if anyone's interested they can contact their store number, 3178973941. Talk to Jon at home theater.

And of course as Siucity points out, use the 4% rewardzone.

I inquired further from the Indianapolis rep, and there's good news. Even if you buy it from them, you can return it at your local best buy.
Here is the exact message:

you can do it right at ur local best buy... n e tv u buy from best buy can be taken care of where ever you are thats the good thing about best buy... plus if you want us to order it for u, make sure u use ur rewardzone card, thats hella points lol...

so if something does goes wrong or for some reason you want a refund, you can return it to ur local best buy, but trust me once u see it in ur house its over... i feel like a little kid with my 60" elite, my wife claims im the biggest nerd ever lol but what can u do if u have never owned a tv like this before, i use to have a 56" samsung dlp

Hope this helps.

So if you take this offer to your local BB why wouldn't they sell it to you for the same price?

They should. Feel free to try it. My guess is that it all depends on the demographic area of your local best buy. If you're in a zip code of the upper middle class and it's selling well above 6k, why would a manager lower it?

I just took the plunge for $4552.00 at my Best Buy in Woodbridge, VA. From everything I have seen it may not be the best deal around but I believe it is a pretty good deal for a B & M.
