You could pre-order the new Panasonic TC-L55E50 LED backlit IPS LCD panel for $1099.

Cause it is likely missing some features that other 55" usually have but you may not care about those features.
New models do not actually mean higher prices. There's alot of factors that decide a tvs price.

Holy crap, Panasonic is going to produce a 55" LED. That does seem low. I bought a 37" Panny LED (TC-L37E3) this year, and it retailed for $800. The tv is sold and it has a semi-matte display. I actually purchased the tv for about $450 during a one week price dip with BB.

I revisited BB again yesterday and I don't think I'll be able to stand Samsung's glossy screens, even though the colors and sharpness are awesome. The Samsungs are also much brighter in Vibrant than the Sonys.\\

I think a few other sites have 2012 models. Could it be that the pre-order price will be different than what it ultimately retails for?

Is the Panny a full backlight panel? I might have to wait to see this.

This set won't have 3D, so I wonder how good the PQ will be? Everyone says that the 3D models out now are better to get cuz the 2D picture quality is better cuz it has a superior panel. I don't really need the 3D feature but wanted it just for the better quality panels

Pretty sure that only applies to plasma. Could be wrong.

I'm curious about this too, along with knowing what type of display the new models will have. I'm still waiting on the Sony EX720 to dip in price further. It seems to be the best semi-matte screen I've seen from 2011.

Yes the PQ on the D8000 Samsung is awesome, but I have a feeling the super glossy screen will get to me after a time. Sony gorilla glass is okay, but seems to dampen the PQ, like it's under really thick glass.

Swolfcg,

There was a great deal yesterday for the 55NX720 for $1099 at Fry's yesterday. Did you miss this. I believe the NX720 is a step up from the EX720.

Yes, I saw people posting this deal on Slickdeals, a couple of days ago. Ever since I decided to upgrade my tube, it feels like I'm either their or here constantly each day.

It might be a step up on paper, but I took a good amount of time looking at both, and I thought the EX looked better. The NX has gorilla glass, which is thick. The EX is semi-matte screen, the NX is not.

I currently live in Virginia until July, and by the time I move back near a Frys, I'll have to wait for the 2012 to go on sale. I really don't want to wait another year to update my 9yr old tv.

So at this point, I either wait for BB to have a super sale on it, which they are out of already intore, or another online vendor. There is a HHgregg here, but I don't like their pressure selling, and the prices aren't all that great on the models I'm looking at.

At this point, I'm eyeing the EX720, EX723 hard. I'm also willing to take the D8000 or D7900 if there is a super sale or someone wants to gift me one.

I can afford the top of the line, but I'm not really digging the super reflective and glossy glass of all those models. I can only assume the 2012s will be just as glossy. I prefer Samsung PQ, but Sony's displays are less reflective and glossy. The LGs have Matte screens, but their PQ is not good IMO.

What really shocked me, was how poor the LG sets looked. By poor I mean almost unwatchable. Based on many reviews, I originally went in with an LG in mind but after actually seeing them side by side with the Sony's and Samsung's, I crossed the LG's off the list.

So, with that in mind, get to your nearest large electronics store so you can see everything in person before you decide on anything.

Amen to that!! I went to look at the LG 5600 and wound up liking the samsungs far better and was attracted to the sony nx720 but the viewing angle on the latter was quite inferior to Samsungs.

On another site they mentioned the MSRP of the E50 of $1699. I have no idea if thats true or not at you can supposedly pre order it for 1099? Also it mentioned an ETA of late March - again no idea if thats true, lol...

Does anyone know if these are going to be glossy or matte screens? I'm not sure what to make of the pictures floating around. Almost looks like it has some sort of glass cover or the screen (so maybe glossy)?

I'm in the same hunt as you.

Mom needs a new TV to replace the ten-year-old RP "refrigerator" set I foisted off on her a few years back. She says that it's getting so dim in her glass-lined living room that it's basically just a radio during the day.

After due consideration, we're about to buy the 55LW5300 package (with 3D DVD player - no Internet). We're seeing it at Sears, BB and others around town right now for less than thirteen Benjamins.

Looking forward to the Final Four and Masters in 3-D!
