Just a quick rant on SonyStyle. With the aid of AjeS, I was able to get Sony to offer me a price match to US Appliance on the XBR-65HX929.

I sent them an email with screen shots (per their request) and they actually called me back and offered me the TV at the US Appliance price.

Unfortunately, I answered on my cell phone while helping my 2 year old get to bed. Needless to say, the kid has priority over my silly TV purchase.

The Sony rep said that he could call me back at 9 am Pacific today, but that if he didn't, I could call them back and get the price.

I called today, but they were unwilling to offer me the same price.

Their stated reason was that the original rep shouldn't have offered me the price because the Sony policy didn't match "in-cart" prices like US Appliance.

That's fine to have a policy, of course, but it was freakishly annoying to get the run-around from Sony in the meantime.

YMMV, but I'd suggest thinking twice before trying to deal directly with Sony.

(And I'll cross my fingers to see how the US Appliance purchase comes out).

I just received my Sharp LC-80LE632U from US-A. Everything went very well. There's at least one other forum member that ordered the same set from them without issue as well.

At least SONY responded to your email. They did not even bother to give me a response. I also called sony they told me the same thing you was told.

After reading a lot of reviews about US Appliance I made the same decision you did and ended up ordering the 65hx929 from US Appliance.

Most the negative reviews for US Appliance fell into 3 categories
1. They cancel my order saying it was out of stock or price error (meh as long as I get my money back not a concern to me)
2. Came broken, had a hard time replacing (that why I went with the white glove delivery that way I just don't sign for it if it comes broken)
3. long delivery time (am in no rush)

none of those gave me enough concern not to buy from them and there seem to be plenty of people that had a positive experience with them. If everything goes smooth I will buy from US Appliance again if not lesson learned.

I'm also having price-match frustration. I wanted to buy a Sharp TV from Best Buy price-matching BrandSmart USA which is literally across the street. But they won't match an in-store price, only website and advertised prices.

They wont match an in-store price? Was it a open box or some kind of special buy or bundle? If not and its just a sale, that seems odd. If the store wont do it, call the corperation and tell them you want to buy from them and you r just doing a simple price to the competitor across the street.

The objective of price matching policies is not to ensure that consumers get better prices. Just the opposite. It's to discourage any competitor from lowering pricing. Price matching policies are supposed to be a protection scheme ... an unwritten price fixing scheme. Business School 101 -- see game theory.

When competitors start breaking the mold, companies look for every way to not make good on the advertised promise ... which is why the policy doesn't acutally discourage companies like US Appl. from lowering price.

I've always been frustrated by Sears, Best Buy, et al. The matching policy is sporadic, at best, and virtually worthless. If anything, it encourages people to shop elsewhere. It's a big miss for them.

Maybe the guy who called you hadn't been fully briefed on Sony's UPP SURE program/policy?

If you guys are looking for a deal on Sony then you'd better get it before April 1.
