well I've had the 65hx950 now for a little over 24 hours. Really nervous when I got it and spent the first few hours trying to find all the issues written up.

No dead pixels, no banding, no blooming (even when i play with the tv menu while watching something else) - whew.

I have 2 weeks to return it but I am going to just enjoy the shows from now on.

Couple of questions:

BB wants $500 for 5 year extended warranty. I checked and SquareTrade they would NOT cover the set since they consider the tv an open box item and would NOT let me buy there warranty through Costco.

Are there any alternatives for extended warranties?

Do I even need a extended warranty on the set?

It comes with a standard 1 year warranty form Sony. Is that enough?

Congrats on the display, it really it a great tv. In regards to the extended warranty, you can actually get one from Sony, either online or from one of their stores/outlets. I actually picked up a 4yr warranty for $299. I know most will not get one, but for me it just gives me some piece of mind.

Even for an open box set from Best Buy?

You can't fool me Consumer Reports. Me and most of my friends agree: high efficiency washing machines are a joke.

My KDL-60R550A?  I bought the warranty from SureTrade through Costco.  Even though I didn't buy the TV from Costco, it's cheaper to get the warranty from them---3 additional years (4 total) for $99.
