Fry's in-store sale today has the Sony KDL-70R550A 70" for $1599. It is listed in their front page ad as the famous name brand 70". While supplies last, sale ends 5/23. I purchased in the North Houston store. Some Fry's locations may have a Sharp for that price instead. Need to call and confirm model.

Delivery within 20 miles is $49 for drop off, $59 for setup and testing too.

The ad doesn't say Sony and after experiencing Fry's "sales" for years, I'd say that it's a teaser ad. Go to the store and you'll find they sold the one or zero quantity t hey had. They are losing big money on each set as their cost is at least 2k per set. San Diego Costcos have the set on sale for $2499 until next month and Costco gives you an extra year warranty and if you buy the Square Trade for $99, you have coverage for 5 years. I waiting to pull the trigger on this set but waiting for an overdue CNET review. Wanted an HX950 but price is not coming down by other dealers and Best Buy blew the 65" out for $3499 a couple weeks ago. 4k is very premature and be sure to listen to the video of Joe Kane on the forum here about the problems with 4k. Definitely not ready for prime time.

My friend and I both purchased this tv today and it is confirmed to be the Sony KDL-70R550A for $1599. This is in the Houston area. There are people in California also getting the Sony. There have also been some stores that are selling the Sharp Aquos LC-70LE745U for this price.

The north Houston and Clear Lake Fry's had many in stock today.

Check out the official Sony R550A thread and many other members are getting this price at their Fry's. Smoking deal. Purchased with my Amex for 2 year warranty.

Just got back from Frys in Houston, they said they sold out all over town, everything sold out this afternoon. Sorry I missed it, very hot deal.

BTW, called BB and ask for match, they said they do not match Anniversary deals, they are too low.

I called best buy for price match also as there are no frys near me. They tried to match it and even called Frys customer service but Frys wouldn't tell them what tv model was for sale.

That is quite a gap from $1600 to $2500, about 35% more. It will be interesting to see the price trends for this TV.

My local Frys was sold out too. I specifically asked for the Sony by model name. Called Best Buy to try a price match and told the associate specifically to call and ask Frys for the Sony KDL-70R550A and to confirm the add price, and viola they price matched on the phone right then and there. I got the TV for $1599 with free delivery and set up. Props to Best Buy!

I purchased via the phone from BestBuy in Bellevue, WA. Unfortunately I don't rember the sales persons name. I did go in to the store and they don't even have the R550A on display yet. It is listed on line though.

Thanks for the tip.

Best Buy agreed to price-match because Frys has a store in Renton? Or did they call a generic Frys 800 phone number?

I ask because I'm in Kennewick, WA. There is no Frys near me, and I wondered if your Best Buy just price-matched the internet (good for me!), or if they were price-matching a reasonably-nearby brick-and-mortar competitor (bad for me!)...

Thanks again.

We went to 2 different Fry's stores in Northern California first thing Saturday morning and they all told me that the $1599 Sony was a very costly computer mistakes and the price for that TV went back up to $3200. The intended TV that was on sale was Sharp NOT Sony. We missed out on that Sony deal and bought our Sony 70R550a from local Costco for $2500 which is the BEST price anywhere at the moment. Congrats to all who got their TVs on Friday. We're willing to buy it back from you for $2000 if you change your mind about the TV smile.gif

Just got back from BBuy and couldn't get the price match deal simply because Fry's current price for the for this Sony went back up to $3200. Only if I could borrow someone's Fry's receipt to show them that this TV was on sale for $1599. It's so hard to enjoy my Sony TV now knowing that lot of other people paid a thousand dollars less than us. I guess the TV is going back to Costco tomorrow frown.gif

Wow. That's quite a mistake or excuse they have you. Two days in a row I went there and none of the sales people told me it was a mistake. They kept saying it was a deal and people waited in the store until they rolled out.

I just got off the phone with Best Buy Brentwood and they confirmed they SOLD this Sony TV a few hours ago for a price match of $1599 BUT they can no longer honor that deal because it was way below invoice. Congrats to member Afrmthabay for an incredible deal smile.gif

Best Buy called the Renton brick and mortar store in order to verify the deal and price match.

You have two choices for the "Best Deal" . First is your local Costco. In the SoCal area, it's $2499 until July. Of course, you have to have a way to lug it home and there is local sales tax. Another option is www.onecall.com They are $2599 but there is no sales tax, free shipping, and they are throwing in a Sony Blu-ray player. In my area od San Diego, the sales tax alone is over $200 (8.75%), so One Call is a no brainer. So Costco is over $100 more than One Call, and I get the free Blu-Ray and free motor freight but I do have to wait.
Waiting everyday for the CNET review. They just did two other Sony models including the current top of the line but at $3200 they were not impressed. I believe that the R550a will be a better value. Stan in San Diego.

Have amazon price match to buydig. I bought my tv on May 31st. with the free blu ray player promo and the tv shipped out Monday. I did the online chat with amazon yesterday and they refunded me $498.

Just received mine yesterday. Purchased Saturday from Best Buy. $500 off the $2699 regular price and that included a Sony B5100 Blu Ray player and 1 year of Hulu and Netflix streaming. Set looks great out of the box (a bit too bright though) Upsized from a 52" Sony Bravia XBR4 that had a great picture, but as all the guys know, size matters. Fortunately, the old set was wider (side speakers) so the overall size of the 70" Sony is not overwhelming to the room.
