The "deals" this year are lackluster at best... $50 off is pathetic at any price point and places advertising such nonsense should be ashamed of themselves...

There have been some decent sales already.  The Sony W900a has been dipping down to ~$1600 at select retailers (its a 55", and arguably the best LED-LCD from 2013), and its runner up the W802a has also been seeing a drop of ~$200-$300 based on different retailers.  Obviously I've been eying these prospects as I am shopping for a new 55" LCD -- still on the fence.

There are deals out there, just not as many yet as maybe hoped.  If you use some of the deal websites out there (SD, FW), you can get a pretty good spectrum of deals trickling in each day.  Hopefully one of them fits your bill (and budget :P).

I'm looking for a no-frills HDTV that will replace my 5-year-old 42" Philips in a home theater setup. All I really need is the 50-60" lcd panel with an HDMI port (don't care about smart apps or what the internal speakers sound like, etc.).

So, what is the best LCD panel to look for in otherwise "low-end" HDTVs or monitors? Has anyone recently ranked the actual current LCD panels by manufacturer/supplier and listed what HDTV brands/models they can be found in?

I can't profess to being an expert on different brands, so I would probably defer you to this thread if you haven't posted in it already:

You can also go to sites like cnet.com to look at TV reviews - you can sort their TV reviews by price range, size, brand, etc.  Most no-frills (non-smart, non-3-D) TVs are also ones that may generally have modest picture quality or build quality.  From my understanding, if you can concede to have some smart features, the Vizio E and M series may be a decent balance of cost, quality, and reputation, and they have quite a variety in the size range you recommended.  Again, I'm no expert - I've mostly been surveying higher end 55" televisions as of late, so hopefully the resources mentioned can help you pinpoint some options.

Ordered one from here a few days ago using Amazon Payments. Status has it as shipped but I haven't gotten a call to schedule delivery. All phone calls lead to a machine saying they are closed haha.

Man, what a fail this was for all those people who hold out until Super Bowl time expecting to get a great deal. Guess these companies are getting smart and don't want to deal with Super Bowl returns.

Actually anyone just planning to return after the Super bowl probably doesn't care about price as much as return policy.
