Sony xbr75z9d

When is the price for this UHDTV model finally going to come down to competitive, affordable level ?
I keep googling it every day hoping for any price drop, to no avail.

Today i see ABe's Of Maine advertising it for "Holiday Special" for $5,899.00 but clicking on the link provided to the company's website the price shown is $6,299.00, which i imagine can be negotiated down to the lower advertised pricing.
That amount is what i consider to be a fair price for the set considering the Sony XBR75X940D is widely available for $4,000.00 or less.

I checked customer feedback for Abe's Of Maine and unfortunately there are too many complaints regarding "bait & switch" tactics used by its online sales department; On the other hand, Abe's Of Maine is actually a brick and mortar store in New Jersey so i imagine if i lived close enough to the store i could order the set in person, ascertain it is in stock, that it has Sony USA warranty and its box is in perfect condition, then pick it up myself.

Oh well, if a store such as Abe's Of Maine is just lowering the sale price for this set from msrp of $9,000.00 to around $6,000.00 how much longer until Best Buy and others do likewise ?
Come on...

I have the same question but with the 940D. Abe's has it for $3,200. Makes me wonder if Best Buy and others will be coming down soon? Especially with new stuff being announced at CES in a couple weeks?

I an ready to buy but get the feeling now is the absolute worse time to buy electronics (post black friday and not long before new models will be coming out)

Avoid Abe's of Maine....

They're a bait-n-switch up-sell dealer like the worst of the Brooklyn dealers - they insist on a phone call, and then try to force-sell you the battery (which is supposed to be included in the box), an extended warranty that's completely worthless, and expensive "White Glove" shipping that's really just basic shipping. If you don't play their game, they will simply not ship the item, and when you call to find out where your stuff is they'll tell you it's out of stock and the order's cancelled.

I've ordered one thing from them, a simple $300 camera; I got an email to call them a week later. As soon as I heard "this camera's grey market, and comes without the battery", I got mad - I needed the camera right away for a trip. As soon as I heard that I knew I'd been duped; I got snippy with the guy on the phone and got an education in creative cursing from him. Never again.

As far as other retailers matching their price - don't hold your breath.... I don't think any legitimate retailer will bother with them. Best Buy will laugh at you if you try to get them to price match Abe's.

Quot homines tot sententiae - "As many opinions as people".

I'm looking for the same thing! I saw Abe's has it for $6,299.00 Read the same thing about how shady they are. They are also not a Sony Authorized dealer. Are any of the vendors on here authorized? I can't believe this hasn't dropped in price at all or at least a sale price around the holidays. I just can't convince myself to pony up 9k for a TV. Somebody must be able to sell this for $7,500.

I got a great deal - and everyone has been asking me how good - I guess this is the Forum to do so. Ended up negotiating with a local BB on the 75" ZD9 - and ended up at $6,850. The set is not price protected by Sony, so BB does have room to move. I don't know if I ended up with the absolute lowest possible price, but I was pretty happy where I ended up on the set. And I guess that is all that matters.

Go to BB and talk directly to a manager. If you push, you'll get something off the list price. How much - well, that will depend on the manager, how good his day is going, and your negotiating skills.

Good luck!

Agree. Lowest I could bargain (tried 3 best buys )) was $7500 including deliver plus tax. Opened best buy visa for 10% gift cards back so $800. Visa has price rewind (Citibank) so will try that

I'll have to give it a try. Even at 7,500 I think it's a good deal.

Thanks.

Sorry for the OT, but I am considering getting a Best Buy credit card to purchase a different Sony TV. Are you saying that their Citibank Visa qualifies for price rewinds? So if I buy it from them, besides the gift card, Citibank will refund the price difference from one of the discount seller? If so, I'm in!

Also, I don't see how to get that specific card from them. Is it based on credit score (mine is 800), can I request it, or are there any other tricks to make sure I get that one? Should I apply online, do it at the store at the time of purchase, etc.?

The best buy visa is by Citibank. I called them and it does have the rewind benefits .

Ask for the visa not the store card

Application made and approved already, so thanks again! After I submitted, I was given a phone number to call with a reference number. She asked which card I wanted and I took the Visa.

The salesman I talked to today said the rewards would show up after the first statement, but your answer makes more sense.

Apologies again for the thread drift, but I have a couple more questions.

First, if the price drops at Best Buy within the refund/price match period, does Best Buy refund their price match to the card or do they do it with gift cards?

Second, if I buy and get the price rewind from an online retailer through their Citibank card, will Best Buy still refund their price match or do they have a way of knowing that I already got a price match through the card?

I doubt the bb price will drop - but they match any major retsiler and refund it to the credit card. I did it today on deadpool 4k. Ordered it for $24 and at amazon for $5 so just called them

Still with ebay being $6999 i doubt you will beat 6800-7500 on the z9

Also being elite plus means 6% gift cards not 5%

Sorry to bug you again. I finally got my physical Best Buy Citibank Visa card today and created my online account at https://citiretailservices.citibankonline.com. Then I tried to register for Citi Price Rewind at https://www.citipricerewind.com/.

It didn't accept my login credentials from the first site so I tried to register my card but got a message about my information not matching theirs and a phone number to call. When I called, the lady put me on hold to check with the Best Buy account specialists. They said that the Best Buy Visa doesn't qualify for Price Rewind!

Did I get the wrong card, could their policy have changed, or did I talk to the wrong people?

If https://www.citipricerewind.com/how-it-works is current, the "Find a Card" link: https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/co...l-credit-cards shows a bunch of cards including the Costco Visas, but not the Best Buy one.

I called their Price Rewind number and the lady couldn't find my card in the system, which might be because I just activated it today. I'll try again next week to see if anything has changed. I'm pretty sure I've seen other posters that have successfully used this with their Best Buy card, so I'm not giving up yet.

Went to the Best Buy in Daytona Beach. No Go. Spoke to the manager and told him I was a buyer at $7k, not $9k, and nothing. I offered to show him the Army/Airforce Exchange price, he said they won't price match any store that's not available to the general public. He stated the Z9D was price protected and wouldn't budge on the price. I mentioned I have a receipt from a friend that bought it for under $7k at another BB and he said it didn't matter, he was not going to jeopardize their Sony agreement.

I can't believe this TV hasn't had one price drop since it's been out.

What is the Army/Airforce Exchange price? Also, do you know how much the Army/Airforce Exchange price is on the 65 inch Z9D?

Thanks.

It hasn't been out long enough; it was released around August 2016. And, there isn't anything competitive size AND technology-wise other than OLED which is almost double the price at 77". You'll see a price drop this summer and again this fall.

I finally went into my local BestBuy/Magnolia, produced sjchmura's info, and asked if they'd match the price. They said no way, it's price protected. So another strikeout.

Go to a different one and bring the receipt from.me

I showed them your receipt and they even tried to look up the order using your phone number, but they couldn't seem to find it in the handful of records that showed up on the screen. I'll try again at a different store.

BTW they had a 75" on display. They said it was out of stock everywhere and would take a couple of weeks to get one.

BTW they had a 75" on display. They said it was out of stock everywhere and would take a couple of weeks to get one.

That's bizzare. Otjers have no problem - a few people in the owners thread used it. Go there and ask for their receipt too - even someone incompetent can find it .
I mean we all did not make up the price

Agreed. But best buy at $7500, open credit card get $800 back in gift cards, add tax it's worth it for the 45 day return - yep 45 days

As someone who sent 1 back I am thankful I paid $200 more in the end

Yes, thats a small price to pay for the service you received. For most that is the way to go, if they can.

There would need to be a substantial cash savings upfront, to go through a retailer that does not also have a B&M accessible near my location. Then again the feedback on returns due to different issues would also play a big role in how much of a savings that would need to be.

The panel lottery will be around for awhile I guess.

I tried another Best Buy with even less luck. The magnolia guy said they wouldn't match another Best Buy's price from Chicago. Cleveland Plasma is looking like the way to go. Fingers crossed I get a good panel.

Panasonic TC-P65VT30, Denon AVR-X6200W, Polk LSiM 703 x 2, LSiM 704c, OWM3 x 6, Velodyne Optimum 10, Apple TV 4th Gen., TiVo Roamio Pro, Panasonic DMP-BDT110, Wii U, Xbox 360, Panamax MR4000, Harmony Elite.
