I have now been told by two other dealers first or second week of June for Canadian availability.

My dealer has not swayed from his "in May" status.

I am in Winnipeg, the store I work at got in some of the 65VT50 yesterday. I am personally taking delivery of my 65VT50 tomorrow night! Can't wait. I dont work for a big box store. I work for an independent high end electronics store. I will post my impressions tomorrow. I dont think it will be as late as June for Canada. Most stores should be getting stock this week.

Just spoke to Gibby's Electronics (internet dealer, but based in Ste. Catherine's, ON) and they are expecting their 65VT50s this afternoon or tomorrow. All but 1 are presold!

Here's my update.

I get an email from my dealer this afternoon. "Your tv will be here in an hour or so.". So after work I head over and sure enough, there's a pile of them in the back, I think all of them have names on them. There's no way that box is getting to my house in anything other than one of the shop's install vans (I deal with a high end shop, big box stores are for movie purchases only), and I'm told it looks like they can deliver Saturday morning... Aaaaaghhhh!

So as I'm leaving, two of their vans pull in. I go back inside and ask them "How about now? I live nearby, it's almost closing time, surely your guys can take care of someone who has dropped more than 10K in the last six months...."

Well now all I have to do is wait for my buddy to come over tomorrow to help me swap out the TC-P65VT50 for the Pioneer PDP5070HD which is currently mounted in my bedroom. Initial impressions will be posted in the VT50 owner's thread. And then have D-Nice do a cal in July when he's in town.

Cheers!

Chris

Grrrrr! None in Toronto area Future Shops either. They now show up as being available for order on-line at FutureShop.ca, but the stores I've contacted still don't see any stock in the warehouse from which they can order. Aggravating!

Few quick observations:

This set is BIG in my bedroom.
This set is GORGEOUS in my bedroom (nice blackout curtains, even at midday).
Sorry you guys don't have yours yet, but it IS worth the wait!

I was expecting my 65VT50 tomorrow but was informed that they are backordered at Visions for a month they say. They told me they never got their shipment. They are giving me a 65GT50 to use until the VT50 comes in free of charge. I guess I can't complain. Maybe I will be happy with the GT50 and just keep it. I don't understand how Visions could have gotten screwed out of their shipment of VT's.

Hahaha; I have a little different housing arrangement than most. My bedroom is my theater room and it consists of:

Panasonic TC-P65VT50
Denon AVR-4311CI
Definitive Technology BP8080ST 6.1 speaker system
Definitive Technology Supercube Reference subwoofer
Oppo BDP-95 universal player
Denon DVD-2910 DVD player
APC Power Conditioner (forget the model number)
Xbox 360
Cable DVR

There is a room in the basement that I would use as a theater, but it has tortoises, a yellow anaconda, a Burmese python and an Ornate monitor lizard living in there (in their own separate enclosures, of course). The living room is monopolized by my GF's parents, so I keep my toys where I can enjoy them!

James

I just bought the VT30 65 inch, I am quite happy. Amazon had it for $2500, free shipping and no tax. I almost went with the 65 inch ST50, but was worried it didn't have enough picture controls. Overall I couldn't be happier. Skyrim looks fantastic. As much as I love a great picture, I couldn't justify spending $1000 more for the VT50. I don't believe the picture upgrade will be that significant. Currently I am running 7.1 with Klipsch S2 speakers with an Onkyo receiver. Things are great. Excellent TV. I good upgrade from my previous TH-58PZ800U.

WTF!!! What is Panasonic Canada doing here? For Future Shop, for example, 60 units were destined for delivery this week. Same for Visions - I'm sure they have a good number on order. So where did thet all go - diverted to the US (where there doesn't seem to be a supply issue at all)? Some small B&M stores DID get stock here so it's not a "meeting Canadian regulatory standards" thing. BAD public relations by Panasonic Canada at any rate!

Perhaps what has happened is the quantities weren't provided as anticipated, so the smaller specialty shops where the majority of the units were sold beforehand got the supply. It sure looked like all the 65VT50's that my shop received all had names on them...

Future Shop, out of the 60, would only have a small number of those pre-sold.

If I was Panasonic and only had a small number of displays, I would send them where they're going to be sold quickly... the small specialty shops.

A theory, anyway.

In any event, I wish you guys would get your displays. Have you checked with the specialty shops in your areas?

Thanks, but that's cruel and unusual punishment for the rest of us Canadians waiting for our VT50's. Future Shop salesperson confirmed this afternoon with Panasonic Canada head of sales that the shipments of 65VT50s to both Future Shop and Visions are delayed to June 4 . No rationale was given, but I suspect Mumps' theory is on the right track. On the other hand, FutureShop.ca still shows the sets available and when speaking to their CS reps they are adamant they have them in the Ontario warehouse. So I ordered one as a test! We'll see. This all makes for a pissy weekend though ................

Update: FutureShop.ca now lists the 65VT50 as a PREORDER with availability JUNE 15. Aaaaaaaaaaak! This is getting worse by the minute (and a clear example the Future Shop has no idea WTF they are doing)! How far is that drive to a Best Buy Magnolia in Buffalo??

I ended up picking up a P65gt50 today from visions and they said I could keep it until my vt arrives. I had to pay for it but will get the money refunded. The gt50 is amazing!!! It's so nice I almost feel like keeping it.....but I don't think I can live with 2nd best.

For you Canadian buyers, remember that because Panasonic assembles this model at their plant in Mexico, it is duty-free under NAFTA. Just make sure your dealer includes the necessary paperwork and certifications on the customs documents he prepares (assuming you are ordering from the U.S.).

My local Visions guy told me to come in on Tuesday June 5 and the 65VT50 should be set up......to check out. I checked out the 60GT50 at Future Shop yesterday and got to check it out. It has blacks that are obviously better than last years models......very nice.

Future Shop is still telling me June 15 despite the national Panasonic rep stating they shipped for June 4. Don`t know who to believe anymore. Enjoying my 65GT50 loaner in the mean time!
