Why the heck is the 60GT50 $1,000 less than the 65GT50?!! That's crazy!!

Anyone considering the GT50 should just go with the ST60. I'm very happy with my 60GT50 which I got for $1599 from Best Buy. But at this point with limited GT50 stock and the prices higher the ST60 is the way to go IMO.

My SACD collection, watch it grow and my wallet shrink ;-).

I had to go with the GT because I needed 4 HDMI inputs..... However it seems as if they can produce an identical picture after calibration. And I have to say its the best set I've ver owned. smile.gif

FM,

I'm glad to hear that you are impressed with the GT50 smile.gif. I plan on having Jeff Meier calibrate my 60GT50 this summer or in the fall.

Because the 65GT50 was essentially sold out long before further markdowns were required.

Though I am an employee of Magnolia Home Theater, the views and opinions I express on this forum are those of my own and not my employer.

Stopped at BB/Magnolia today to see if they still had the GT50 and perhaps see the ST60 if they had them on hand yet. They had both on display, though they had neither in stock (GT50 could still be ordered and ST60 was not being delivered yet, according to the rep).

I wasn't able to leave without getting a hard sell on the GT50. I turned him down, but before I left was offered GT50 at $100 less than the ST60's current price plus a free calibration. This was far better than their shelf pricing, but wasn't enough to get me to bite.

Anyone think that is a decent purchase if you add a squaretrade warranty as well?

With a warranty you might be OK. Personally, a used TV was not an option. I'd check the policy, it was a big factor towards me ordering a TV from a retailer that operates locally. As much as I've heard about DOA TVs that have been shipped, I didn't want to play that game of I ship, you ship, we ship.

You can get the 60" ST60 for $1,699 from Best Buy or even try to have them price match Sears price of $1,499. Why would you spend more money on the GT series at this point?

I am trying to decide on a Magnolia floor model (P65GT50) open box item in best buy at 1600$. Would it be worth to take a look at this or look at new 60" ST60's for almost the same price ? The sales guy it had been a floor model in the Magnolia family room setup for around 7 months and on for 4-5 hours a day and it comes with no glasses. I will take that with a grain of salt.

I would love to listen to some inputs on whether this is a good deal ?

I too am getting a 65" GT50 from Magnolia. I got mine for $1699. I figured it is roughly $700 cheaper than the ST60 and I have heard that since it has the dual core processor there is less lag than on the ST. I believe mine was used for around the same period 7-8 months as a display. I've bought plenty of Open Box stuff before and I think this is a really good deal for a 65". I'll report back when I get it as it is supposed to be delivered this weekend. I did see it on while I was there and I thought the picture looked really good.
