I was offered a store display TCP 65VT50 for 2,000.00 even at a local dealer. I did not look at how many hours are on it. It is on a stand 8' off the floor behind other sets so it has not been touched or played with. What are your thoughts?

FWIW, I ended up purchasing a P65VT50 display model from Best Buy for the same price ($1999). They would have price matched the $2399 price on a new one, but there were no more to be had.
So far the TV has been great. I got a Square Trade extended warranty (Costco), which I've never done before.
On the plus side there is the great price and no break in period required. All in all, a positive experience with Best Buy and the store manager. smile.gif

I say go for it. Buy an extended warranty and don't look back.
The picture quality is amazing.

I have purchased several square trade warranties from square trade but always directly. I am not familiar with the Costco version.

Seems like a no brainer. The cost directly from S.T. Is 299, but I could purchase a membership and the warranty and still be ahead of the game. I am just not sure how the 2 year Costco Concierge service comes in to play if you did not purchase the set from them. I have filed 2 claims on S.T. Warranties and their customer service is outstanding . I would highly recommend them.

I agree with cos54. Join Costco. They have trial memberships (I think). You have 30 days from the TV purchase to get on board with Square Trade. The other option would be to extend the warranty with a CC. In the past, I have used Amex for this. Just confirm that the Panasonic original one year warranty is still in play, If you are buying from Best Buy, that should be the case (it was for me).
If they will PM the <$2300 close out prices being offered on new ones, I would consider that option. Where I live, there were no more available and I did not feel comfortable ordering from some of the web sites.
Best Buy has shown good customer service. If you have a problem, it's nice to be able to go in and talk with someone. In any case, the supply of VT50s is clearly diminishing. If you want one, you should probably pull the trigger...
My $.02.

cos54,

Thanks for your thoughts smile.gif. There isn't a Costco near me but one down where I work. I will try to see if I can buy the Square Trade warranty with a trial membership. I would have no problem joining Costco but we shop at BJ's in our area. I had thought about getting an extended warranty through Best Buy but their future as a company is in question. I hope Best Buy is around for many years to come as I have bought many products (computers, appliances and A/V gear) some with extended warranties from them over the years.

Thanks, let me know how you make out with Costco. I will not be getting my new set until next weekend, my retailer (not BB) wants 299 for a 2 yr or 399 for a 4 yr. those prices of course are plus tax . I understand that B.B. service plans are 3 rd party and are guaranteed even if they do go under. That Costco deal is looking better and better....

If you know someone that is a Costco member they could buy a Costco gift card that you could use to purchase anything in the store without being a member. I don't know if there is something unique about the extended warranty program that would not allow this.
