Hey everyone...

I'm hoping to get an old (4000 hours) ST60 floor model from BB this Friday, but it doesn't come with anything but the power cord. This is a problem for me, because I won't be able to wall mount it, so I need the stand. Does anyone know where I can get the right stand? I've checked Ebay, but they're all the wrong kind.

This is a stretch, but if any of you guys bought a 50" and have a stand that you don't need, maybe you'd like to jump on Ebay and let me buy it off you?

Also, on a completely different note, I talked to the home theater helper at BB, and he said that I wouldn't get much use out of the TV because it's been running 12 hours a day since March, and wouldn't live that much longer. I did the calculations, and like I said, that's about 4000 hours. Is what he said true? Or will I have it running strong for another 5 years?

Thanks for the advice!

Pretty sure they have like a 100,000 hour half life.

Be good or be good at it

if these are 65" and there are no IR or other picture issues, the hours are not that important since they are all rated at 100,000 hours...my pick would be the st60 for best value...

i have the 65st60 that i paid over $2,000 that i love...

Found this site with new 55" $1372 and 60" $1555 ST60. Have not tried to order. Would love to have a 60" ST/VT/ZT but baby on the way doesn't permit. But I still can't help but look for one. So maybe someone else can benefit.

I'm always leery of places where I can add 2,000 of a hard-to-find item to my cart. Doesn't mean they don't have units available it just means their inventory is not accurately reflected on the site.

Just called primarily an IT company. Their inventory shows zero units for panasonic plasma in their inventory or major distributor inventory. The search continues...mad.gif

Thanks for the heads up. Called. Site error on buy-squad. Hunt continues.

Not sure what to make of my call with Insight. The rep said it wasn't available - obviously - but that they may get more in 2-4 weeks time?

Now I am not sure if that was PR talk to keep going back or the real deal. I'll check frequently nonetheless. They basically focus on business sales now, not "home sales".

For those of you who feel "sad" about not finding the ST60 in stock - don't be.

I bough our 60" ST60 in July. Bought it in a hurry because of great reviews and our old Panny had just died and rushed into the purchase. Yes, the picture is very good. Yes the $1500 price was good. However, just sittin on the wall looks "butt ugly" - because of the mirror like black bezel faced with a mirror finished silver border. When it is off, just on the wall, during the day those reflections make it look tacky. Even in an almost pitch black room at nite, the reflections can be distracting.
If you read the hundreds of pages of reviews, you will see this mentioned by some small number of people. A few went to the trouble of putting dull black masking tape on the bezel. The big majority don't find the "tackiness" to be offensive and accept the reflections of light from the "mirrors" (mainly the wider bottom bezel) not too distracting.
This is our 4th Panny Plasma (in our two homes) over the years. The others added to the ambiance of the room where they are hung.

Panasonic has always gotten beaten up for their design aesthetics. Remember their all silver bezels? They took a lot of heat on the forum for those designs. They've improved over the years but still not enough for some peoples tastes.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of glossy black frames. They're ubiquitous, of course, but the height of tacky, IMO. Reminds of so much garish modern Italian furniture.

I miss the time when commercial panels were all the rage here on AVS. No tuner, no speakers, with sleek, minimalist matte frames. Those were the days. Everyone on AVS flocked to the forum sponsors to buy their Pioneer, Panasonic, NEC, Hitachi, etc., plasmas. That's where all the best deals were, no contest. Places like Best Buy, Amazon, Frys, Sears, etc., were all very distant considerations for panel purchases. Funny how it's the polar opposite now.

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

Yeah no cares about your personal feelings about the styling, go write a blog about it.

I'm not a fan of the chrome either, some $3 Black gaffer tape and problem solved. The border could be a neon green and I would have still purchased my ST60, because picture quality trumps everything..

Just wanted to second checking with your local hhgregg to see if there are any floor models left. I picked up a 65 inch st60 last week with 3200 hours. I could not believe there was actually one left around anywhere. Now to keep running the pixel flipper and hope the slight IR from ESPN goes away.

I was checking my american express rewards and the 65st60 was available to purchase using points or equivalent of $2399. Again, not sure if they in stock is up to date and you would have to have american express, but might be an option for some.

Not sure if anyone's seen this, but two new (somewhat suspicious) online stores came up on Google Shopping for the 50" version. I tend to check every so often, and today I found "http://www.techgeekshop.com/product/?id=1271077" and "http://pycity.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12832". The first link is from a place called Tech Geek Shop, the second from a place called Pycity.

If anyone's interested, the Google shopping page for the 50" is "https://www.google.com/shopping/product/4111375577667504504?espv=210&es_sm=91&output=search&q=panasonic+st60+50%22&oq=panasonic+st60+50%22&ei=Ia5AU6z2AubEsASym4DoBA&ved=0CL8EEKYrMAE".

Hi all,

I found a floor model 65ST60 at a local Frys for $1800.

I could not get the hours on the panel.

However when i ran the slides, i see the text "Store" on top right corner (pics attached) on all colours. Are these Burn-In/IR's ? The text was slightly visible with normal contents.

I did not see any other uniformity issues.

Do y'all think its worth purchasing ?

P.s : I Have a bright living room (No direct sunlight on the screen ) , and can limit the lightness by max 40% using shades

Hum that looks permanent burn to me.
As these become unubtanium the question becomes what level of wear/damage are you willing to accept?
Having found a 2600 hour Sears special 60ST60 with no burn that I could see I jumped in.

To me the only alternative is the Samsung PN64F8500AF @ $3,000.
Will Samsung release a new model with the same performance with less features for less $-I'd say unlikely.

You can keep looking and probably find one with not burn but its getting harder and harder.

Good luck, its worth the hunt.

Hello all,

I'd like to add my search for a TC-P60ST60.  I found this model which is a display model, no one could tell the hours logged and all it comes with is the remote since it's being sold as open-box on clearance.  The reason why it's still sitting in the clearance section is, it has some scratches on the display which everyone else can't get past.  Of course the scratches are very noticeable when powered off against the Black background, when powered on, not really.

Details:

Price: $699.99 + tax

Extended 5-year warranty: $199.99   (optional)  I'm thinking of taking this warranty if I make the purchase

I tried to take some pictures best I could from different angles in the store to show off the scratches:

Considering the condition: Clearance; Discounted price; Open-box (remote only); Scratches on the display, what do you think about this purchase?

Thanks.

as long as you can not see the scratches when the tv is on i think it is a good deal...see if they will lower for another $100...

me, i would get it if there are no other picture issues like IR or burn in...i have a 65st60 i paid over 2k but of course no scratches or other issues...

Accidentally posted in the VT60 thread

Picked up a 55ST60 at Sears in Orange County, CA. Was in Sears buying some tools yesterday. Headed over to look at washer and dryers and the TV's were right there. Saw this Panasonic Plasma for 999.00. Remembered seeing them heavily recommended on the internets. Took note of model number and read until by eyes bled last night - mostly on this site here (THANKS everyone contributing at AVS forums!!)

I returned the following day(today). So, no remote. I ran the screen wipe utility to look for burn in. While doing that I attracted a crowd - all the TV sales guys wondering what I was doing. One of them produces a brand new remote. Was able to get exact hours. 3200 hours, 422 power cycles - ouch. Higher than I hoped. Screen looks pretty flawless as far as scratches. Could see some faint lettering in the middle of screen during wipe but couldnt quite make out what it is. Hoping some IR that will fade. Decided to pull the trigger. Plugged in in the garage and did the screen wipe again. Could more clearly see faint images of the on screen apps and their related text. Fired up Dredd on Netflix (friend recommended for this purpose - that movie is violent, keep your kids away)  and it was stunning. Granted I am coming from an 8 year old Sammy 42", but wow.

So, questions for those so kind to reply:

1. Is 3200 hours too high? I intended to buy a TV for around 1k to get me through the next 4-5 years while the new tech evolves and becomes affordable and I will remodeling the area the TV sits in that time frame. In other words, if this thing lasts 5 years I will be happy.

2. How can I tell if it is IR that may go away or burn in that wont? Is there a recommended procedure for taking steps to help it heal?

3. It comes with the factory 1 year warranty. If kept, should I add the Sears 3 year warranty for $300.00? Opinions?

Thanks again to AVS forum mods and contributors!

I'm guessing this was a "magic pen display" and that's where all the scratches came from and if it was it would have been running the Panasonic demo loop and if it was I can assure you it has a ton of hours on it and major burn in. If it was indeed one of these displays it is crap and I would keep looking.

My experience: Bought 65S60 demo from HH Gregg w/ 2800 hrs. Ran screen wipe and screen test patterns from You tube overnight and during first couple of days when not in use. ESPN logo and ticker line at bottom of screen slowly faded away. When bought, IR only noticable during screen wipe. After only a few hours, logo barely legible and ticker line barely noticable.

P.s : I Have a bright living room (No direct sunlight on the screen ) , and can limit the lightness by max 40% using shades

If you got a 30-day return window, take the chance and run the screen wipe when not in use. If the IR does not fade away and, in fact, is burn in, then return it on Day 29. I have the S60 (no anti-reflection) in a fairly bright room and we are able to overlook day time reflections. Naturally, I prefer watching at night to avoid reflections. The ST60 should fare better than the S60 and YMWV based on how much are you willing to put up w/ reflections.

Another vote for worth a shot during the RETURN period and NOT the warranty (since the warranty doesn't cover IR or burn in). Just be careful with transport if you buy an open box and think you might return it at all. I don't think plasma sets are as fragile as some people do, but they ARE huge sheets of glass.

My set gets IR pretty quickly (I can leave my blu ray player player's menu on the screen for less than a minute and the ghost of the white lettering will be there when the movie first starts up) but it pretty much immediately fades. Only exception to that was the Viera menu in the upper left corner after a weekend spent playing with the calibration. That took a few days to completely fade....was never very visible with normal content.

Just remember that depending on the loop that was shown 3000ish hours can be a lot if it created any IR at all. Nothing at home is likely to provide that amount of abuse.
