^A lot is dependent on price and condition. $2500 is most certainly too much if it's been used considerably.

Merely a year ago, I had doubts there'd even *be* a big-screen OLED TV on the market by now. It's already better than plasma in almost every measurably way aside from motion resolution (and QC, which they're improving upon every day). Yes, the sizes are currently limited and the price is still extreme.

As do I Vin but a good price alternative is the F8500...I also saw you've had some issues with dead pixels on the OLED as well as your plasma

And I have read some on the OLEDs. Who is actually going to continue to make these things? Just LG? Or is Sony jumping in on it?

Yes, I have not had good luck in the pixel dept. lately.

Looks like LG is it right now. Samsung is only in the R&D stage after last year's expensive experiment. I wouldn't count on the Japanese getting involved any time soon if ever.

The Chinese are looking to be a big player, as one of their companies (Skyworth) is now rebranding the LGs for $4800: http://hea.163.com/14/0421/14/9QC59NU60016656A.html

Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fhea.163.com%2F14%2F0421%2F14%2F9QC59NU60016656A.html

Skyworth envisaged for the end of November last year, on the eve of the market, Skyworth OLED mass production six months ahead of time. For Liu Tong Chi said, OLED panels yield Skyworth strategic partner to enhance LGD faster than imagined.
That's good news for everybody.

well purchased a 65vt60 tonight will be delivered on Thursday. it's a floor model with some ir on it which I should be able to get off within a week or two. got it for $1450. I took some color slides with me and the only time I could see the ir was on very light gray or white background. can wait to get it all set up. biggrin.gif

You know. I've watched this thread for a while wondering why people are driving themselves wild looking for floor models, dealing with abused IR issues - often at prices and time investment that don't make a lot of sense to me vs. new alternatives still on the market. Samsung is different but really not too far off, and yes I own a 65VT60 - happy to have it but it wouldn't overly bother me to have the Samsung and if it was really a big deal there's always the extremely overpriced leftovers. Other people feel differently but this is where I come out on it.

With that as a precursor, I think you did great on this. I'd move on this deal in a second and even if you never improve the IR you will rarely see it. Well done and good luck with it.

I have a tad of IR experience of this type also. Right after delivery, think hours 10-50 on the TV, the whole family came down with the "death flu" in our house so kids were home for a week watching a lot of kids channels with high contrast channel logos and non-full screen content - I did what I could but figures right. Anyway I kept it on THX Cinema and only once or twice was there some IR noticeable mostly from the totally irresponsible Cartoon Network's use of Black/White logo - as*hat*. You could really only see it on a solid screen, mostly grey or white. Anyway, very similar IR to what you describe. Each of the two times I used the screen wipe feature overnight, I think once was 2 nights in a row. Completely gone and forgotten both times. They've been watching a lot of that type of content over time but I've never had another issue with visible IR - I do keep the pixel orbiter on.

at first I was just kind of seeing if I could find one close to me. found one 20 miles away (the one I purchased) I was back and forth about getting it until a couple of days ago my 8 year old crt hdtv convergence went out. I know I could have it fixed ,but who knows when the next thing will go out and I would be out that $$ so I figured I would just go and get the 65vt60 it's as close to crt hdtv as you can get. plus I will be going from a 57inch screen to 65 so that's another plus. I was also looking at the Samsung 8500 but I thought why should I fork out another $1500 plus just because it's brand new. my floor model comes with a year warranty still plus I can get an ext warranty for around $150 for 3 years so i'm covered 4 years on the tv. I just glad I got a plasma before they are gone and yes I do have another plasma in my living room a Samsung which has ben very good.

Just keep in mind the possibility that you may not get rid of the IR (making it defacto burn-in).

Kind of funny. I too swapped to the 65VT60 from a Mitsubishi 55" CRT RPTV - so very similar circumstance. It was in an alcove so the space savings was real but only marginally useful and can't hang on the wall given placement of an old mantle and stairwell. What got me off the fence was Panny leaving the business, this being a truly great display, and plasma's going dinosaur with OLED of similar pricing a ways off. Once Amazon put up their low pricing I figured now or never. I passed the Mits to a neighbor down the street and I'm sure it will serve them well but I'm confident that if I'd have held onto it, it would have likely died a week after the stock was depleted (I'm old enough to see Mr. Murphy hunting me now).

Can someone tell me what the original price for the 65VT60 was?

Best Buy is telling me it was $2999...

But I thought it was higher than that?

Street price, sure. SRP was higher (but who pays SRP?). This Amazon price tracker is the quickest record I could find: http://camelcamelcamel.com/Panasonic-TC-P65VT60-65-Inch-Discontinued-Manufacturer/product/B00BC4SN9S (a high of $3599 when it first showed up).

OK, yeah...

$3,599 is about what I thought it was originally.

They are all floor models and they won't ship since they don't have the boxes. Some good deals if they are in good condition and you can go pick one up!

well I got my 65vt60 on Saturday. the first one was delivered on Thursday they plugged it in and it powered on and was making a weird buzz sound with no picture, so they took it with them (delivery guy's) I then got a call from the store manager (hhgregg were I purchased) saying I could get a refund or he could see if could find another. to make a long story short they found me another one. this one was better as it came with the 3d glasses and app/web remote and the ir is not nearly as bad as the first one and it seems to be going away. anyway the picture on the plasma is awesome. I also got a refund on delivery as they showed up about an hour late. so just a little over $1500 with tax. biggrin.gif

Wow that's a great deal.
So is HHGREG finally blowing the Panasonic out?
I'd really like to find another 65ST60.

yes but you have to haggle some. I do know they will not knock as much off on the st60 as they did the vt as they said the markup on the st is not as much. not sure were you are located ,but around me they have one in about every store( display models that is) good luck here are a couple more pics along with my new stand

Assuming the display isn't fubar, would $1300 be a decent price for a 65" VT60 floor model with 3000 hours? I also found a floor model 65" ZT60 for $1400, but getting it shipped to my location doesn't sound likely.

In a word: YES!

Mark H (inagic) just paid 2k for his 64" F8500 and that was a killer deal.

Take a memory card or USB stick with some solid color slides (you can find them in this forum) to the store to check for any IR but assuming the panel doesn't have any damage or uneven wear I'd jump on that.

Holy cow, the VT is a great deal but $1400(assuming all is well) for the ZT is insane.

If you don't take the ZT60, please PM me the info and I'll buy it.

ISF Calibrator

Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-111FD
Pioneer Kuro BDP-320

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

The ZT60 didn't didn't really sound like an option as the owner seemed unwilling to ship and it's thousands of miles away. Both sets are open box floor models, and I'm not sure how many hours are on the ZT60.

My biggest concern would be IR or burn-in. I would think at 3000 hours they could be permanently messed up if they have been displaying static logos on Vivid. For the VT, it sounded like I would have to purchase in order to have it shipped to where I live, at which point I could check it out and get a refund if I didn't want it.

I just bought a 55" VT60, but I'm thinking my room could handle a 65". I was really wanting a ZT60, but if ambient light isn't a concern there doesn't seem to be much reason to get one of those over a VT60. Thoughts on the ZT vs the VT?

Assuming the sets aren't damaged, the prices seemed pretty reasonable, if not very good. Should 3000 hours be a concern?
