Hey guys I don't mean to hijack this thread but I thought this would be the most appropriate place to ask this question. Since it's seems now that Panny may be getting out of the TV market altogether but most assuredly plasma TV's, how would a big box retailer like BB or even places like Square Trade and Costco handle the redemption of a warranty for a product line that has been discontinued? Example: I buy a 65VT60 today, get a 4 year warranty from one of the above mentioned retailers, and to my dismay 2 years later the TV craps out. I could see walking into BB and having one of the blue shirts basically tell me "well Panasonic doesn't make TV's anymore so there is no 2015 equivalent so your SOL." From the accounts of many of your experiences this doesn't seem too far fetched! Does anyone have any insight as to what might happen in this situation for any of the warranties that are frequently mentioned on AVS?

I wouldnt call 2599 plus tax dirt cheap .
Now 2077.00 for a 65" F8500 is timeless oh no tax too. Unilateral pricing agreement rofl best buy and samsung.... Pauls tv

Yea im the guy and theres nothing fishy about it ...
Vinnie hows the fans on the ZT? I dont hear anything on the F8500.. With no volume

I noticed them during break-in, but not since I've used it for watching shows. I know the noise is there, just not noticeable in my viewing environment. The F8500 uses passive cooling and thus no fans. The only possible thing you could potentially hear is buzzing. wink.gif The only way the F8500 could look better (black level-wise) in the dark is if the excessive brightness from the set is causing your pupils to dilate more. ;D

Glad some people were able to benefit. I missed out. Just an FYI that the warehouse 65 VT60's on Amazon still look compelling -- although they were in the 2200-2300 range yesterday and have now shot up to the 2400-2500 range. I assume we will see further creep up. Anyone know if places like Value Electronics offer "open box" type deals? They must have a handful of sets returned for reasons like fan nose, etc. Thanks.

Rats!! VT60 is the set I want, but I missed Amazon's one day sale by a few hours.

Anyone think they'll have more sales? Seems kinda weird like it was a mistake/glitch in their pricing algorithm, not really a sale. I mean, $700 off for one day? Strange. If it was a glitch, probably won't happen again...

Zt is a great set and you are right the pupils will dilate more watching in a dark room. The best tv for movie watching is a zt /vt in a complete dark room. But once the lights come on the whites shine on the f8500. The f8500 is a better overall set though then the Vt because of the price i got it at and i am not batman ,

I really like the daytime viewing/ filter and smart hub.. I own a apple tv a sony top end blu ray they apps are too clunky. Maybe i need a roku 3 idk. Or a oppo ... The content i was watching last night seems to bring out more detail on white backgrounds , whites are just overall sharper and clearer then my old vt60'.. If the zt is less bright that could pose a issue for me in my living room. Hopefully panasonic will up their game next year and stop messing around . After using smart hub interface i can see why samsung makes good phones and screens. The money is just pouring in for samsung. Sony and panasonic have alot of work to do and will probably need government assistance to stay afloat or competitive.

To make a long story short the tv is alot better then my old VT 60 but i would say the VT has the black level advantage but now i dont have to worry about the picture being washed out in the day

You wouldnt believe the **** i went through today with the delivery. So anyway the TV is a return hence the warehouse deal amazon.. I got this set for 2588.00 no tax. The set was delivered by one guy on a truck .. helped him get it into the house and found out the screws are missing for the stand and a IR cable to boost the signal on remotes.. On top of that my entertainment center wood furniture has a huge gash in it from moving the stand ..

The TV bezel /glass everything is flawless and works great... I just got off the phone with amazon and complained about what happen and got another 20 percent off the whole deal .. LOL
Grand total for 64" F8500 2071.00 well 1 % back so about 2050.00

Home depot has the screws for the stand so no worrying there. I called up samsung and they will send me out a new IR cable. Other then that the filter is way better and so is the smart hub.. years ahead of panasonic. My movies on my hard drive all play back flawlessly the apps kick ass. The only thing i will miss with the VT is the stand
center speaker has to be mounted now. speakers and built in sub , game lag which i probbably never notice, and dark room setting missing those inky blacks. I will be watching some movies tonight so i will see how much of a difference probably not much..
Have alot of respect for panasonic plasmas but their picture is too washed out during the day and the smart tv features suck ass

The F8500 plays everything perfectly MKV. AVI etc. on my hard drive.
3d looked way better during the day vs the VT60 , maybe i have alot of windows idk

VT60 65" Going back to best buy

paid 2599+tax with geek squad 4 year for 499.00 grand total 3278.00 roughly

amazon ware house deal 2071.00 no tax and going with square trade 99.00 costco warranty making it 4 years.
Forgot to mention no buzzing way quieter then my ST30 . Virtually silent no fans .
Have a great weekend , i know i will

Are you sure you can still get a square trade warranty through Costco? I thought the warranty was for new televisions. I believe Amazon Warehouse deals are considered used, so I wonder if you would be able to get that Square trade warranty through Costco. Congrats btw.. excellent deal

Sorry to say, odds are close out time. Those where close out prices, amazing it was. We, over here would have lost money on every unit for those insane prices.

Yeah - I figured it those were below dealer cost prices -- amazing that Amazon has the ability to do that, even for a brief period. I do fear for the future of brick and mortor stores and dealers like you -- but I suppse its great pricing pressure for consumers in the short term...

PaulsTV was selling the 60" VT60 for $1,999 shipped over the July 4th weekend.
Amazon's price was pretty much that.

Didn't strike me as too weird.
But it's now the price I'm looking for from here through the end of the year.

Amazon only came down to counter Best Buy. And Paul's was actually lower before both of them.

You are reading WAY too far into the recent pricing anomalies. In the event Panasonic, or any other TV manufacturer, went out of business the factory warranties would be covered by their insurer. In the case of the Best Buy warranty, you would also still be covered since the manufacturer going out of business would not affect the Best Buy warranty. But again, do not interpret the recent prices as Panasonic taking an early exit from the TV business. I can ASSURE you, that has nothing to do with it.

Best Buy gift card...minus what you paid for the warranty

the same thing they are going to do on a few Sharp elites I suspect...since I understand Sharp is not making replacement parts that were unique to the Elite series

They are probably worried about the bottom line over a month, not a day. Last year they did 61 Billion in net sales that is 164 million per day on average.......... LOL

-- We can get close to those prices they had, for a limited time wink.gif

I have to reiterate my gratitude to this thread, and to the members who posted the 'tips' on deals online. I was able to take advantage of the 1 day opportunity earlier this week, and made out quite handsomely. I actually show 2 price adjustments from Magnolia, 1 from thier own sale price in the morning, and 1 from matching Amazon's price in the afternoon. Again, quite grateful to this thread. Now if we could only prevent certain goofballs from posting thier love of the F8500 on this VT60 deals thread... rolleyes.gif

This forum has multiple threads, covering multiple topics for a reason. People don't go around posting unrelated in random threads, just because they can. Post your comments in the appropriate thread, so this site doesn't get bogged down with random comments all over the place. was going to buy st60 based on avs' advice.
decided against st60 based on avs' advice.
debated between 55vt60 and 65s64. decided on s64 over 55vt60 based on size difference.
decided against p65s64 in favor of p60vt60 based on avs' deal info.
missed out on amazon/paulstv deal for p60vt60 b/c i sat on hands for a day or two.
p60vt60 too expensive, consigned self to p65s64 at costco based on avs' advice.
went all day looking for cc w/rewards to sign up for to buy s64.
go to costco to make membership, membership not needed for tv.
come home to buy p65s64.
checking out item on costco.com.
entered cc info.
hitting next to review.
decide to open new tab and check avs forum one more time.
find said post by warren.
new tab
go to abes.
buy 60vt60.
high five the lady friend.
she just shakes head.
come back and thank warren in previous avs tab.

was a good day.

Really? As long as it isn't some sort of anti-gun thing...
