That's correct. With all due respect, who pays list price on an item like this nowadays? We all know they will be heavily discounted soon enough. Look at the VT50's a few months ago. Additionally, my 65V10 suffered from the black level rise and Panasonic could not care less about the issue. I told myself I would either get a good deal on my next Panasonic plasma or look somewhere else altogether...
I could take my business online and not have to worry about taxes nor delivery. I have an Amazon Chase Visa card and get 3X points that way. But I figured I would support a local store instead. Stupid me! When at Best Buy, I politely inquired what the best price they could offer was. Their answer was "whatever the list price is". They also gave me the wrong information about the VT60 and didn't even know what they were talking about, period. When I asked if I could get a better deal they became rude, arrogant and started giving me some smart-ass remarks. I'm sorry, but I spend a significant amount there every year and I do not think expecting better treatment and a reasonable deal is beyond the realm of the logical. Not to mention, good luck finding somebody there at all. For the last year or so, every time I visit Magnolia there is literally NOBODY there...
Similar experience at HHGregg as well. The salesguy, who was in his 20's, asked me how much I was hoping to pay. I named my price and he told me to wait while he would talk to his manager, etc, etc. We know what that means. Literally 30 minutes later the guy is nowhere to be seen, and the store is EMPTY. I finally go look for him and he had completely forgotten about me. I refresh his memory and he asks me to wait ONCE AGAIN. Another 15 minutes later, he comes back with a price that wasn't even close to what I had proposed... Did he even listen to what I had to say? I'm ok if you are not willing to give me the deal, but don't waste my time.
So, yes, I can understand your question, but I do not see any harm in doing what I did at Brandsmart. Again, no BS, no wasted time. I went in, I was greeted cordially right away and before I opened my mouth the guy there said "I WILL get you a great deal today". I mentioned I was a repeat costumer, I named my price and he took it.
I deal with rude people at work myself, and I feel bad for those in retail who also deal with nonsense on an hourly basis, trust me. But that was not the case with me. I respectfully offered to pay cash, I explained I was fully aware of the profit margins, features, etc. in each model, and I simply asked for a good deal. I do not think there's anything wrong with that.
