I have a 50" 720p Samsung DLP that I bought in February 2006. I was heavily considering buying the ST60, but ultimately decided the price difference between the ST60 and VT60 was worth the cost. When I saw here that Amazon was pricematching the Brandsmartusa.com coupon I had to pounce. I ordered the 60" VT60 and chatted with an Amazon CSR who has already issued me a refund of the cost difference plus tax. I think the total refund was $162.63. $1647.99 for this TV? Unbelievable! Thanks!

Ya, thanks again for posting this deal. I went through with the purchase today as well. Delivery date January 6th! I'm just hoping I will have enough time to get the TV setup to watch the BCS championship game!

Damn. I bought the 65" when it was $2149. Not sure if that extra 5" is worth an extra $500.

Playing devil's advocate, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years from now, if you had bought the 60" (and gotten used to the size) you might think, man I could have bought the 65" for $500 more - especially with this being the last of the Panasonic plasmas. Enjoy the TV. If it bothers you enough, cut costs elsewhere. smile.gif

So I just ordered the 60" VT from Amazon, but they said they were unable to match the price to the door from BrandSmart. Living in CA I have to pay tax and they said they can only match the price of the TV, not tax. Now I have to decide if my long standing relationship with Amazon is worth $130 to keep the order with them instead of ordering from BrandSmart

Devil's advocate... 60"VT @ 1649, 64" f8500 at 1799+tax ~ 2k... 65" VT at 2300...
I'm getting to eventually replace the HL-S6187 I've had for 6+ years now

CA resident as well. Paying tax on a big ticket item sucks. I purchased my 60VT60 on Dec 1 for $1749 and contacted Amazon a while back to get the Brandsmart $1648 price match. It took three tries before they agreed to price match. I didn't bother asking if they would adjust so that I paid $1648 instead of $1648 plus sales tax because I knew what the answer would be.

I think I am going to try calling tonight and ask if they will give me a gift card or Amazon credit for the difference in tax. I will let you know if it works.

They will not refund for the tax (unfortunately), I asked when they did the price match for me. In San Antonio sales tax is 8.25% so I ended up paying about $150.... more or less equal to the price match discount. The way I look at it is paying an extra $150 to get the TV from a seller I am familiar with.

For what it is worth, I tried to get a price match through Paul's TV (which would be tax free for me but not for a Californian) and they would not match the BrandsmartUSA.com price. They came up with some ******** about the shipping service not being white glove so the price wasn't comparable. They also tried to sell me on the idea that they could give me 50% off a $100 HDMI cable when I purchased a TV from them and that should make buying through them without the price match worthwhile. They didn't realize they were talking to someone who spends $5 on mono price HDMI cables :).

This is correct. They would not give a credit to match the price with tax included. I opted to stay with Amazon for the $123 in tax. I like their price guarantee and customer service. Now I am just hoping the build date is newer than August and trying to decide whether I purchase an extended warranty. Does anyone recommend any of the available extended warranties? I have two Panasonic plasmas currently. One is 10 years old and the other is 3. I have never had a problem with any of them. The available warranties are priced much more attractively than they were at BB the last time I bought a TV.

Having trouble deciding between a price matched $1500 P65ST60 and the $1600 P60VT60, they both equal the same since I wont have to pay tax on the VT. Feel like I really want the 65' but I do a lot of gaming and its hit or miss whether people are bothered by the input lag.

that would be a tough call. I'm torn between 60ZT and 65VT

My gut tells me for posterity go with the highest quality of these panels in a size you can live with
but then again maybe I'll go for max screen?

I have the same dilemma and the VT pricing ends today. I posted a question asking peoples preference yesterday but no one has responded! I'm thinking of ordering the VT and pushing out the delivery date so I can cancel it if I decide to go with the 65ST.

2292 OTD no tax
fair price and amazon protection

problem is I don't need one but I do WANT one!

I am going to purchase a square trade warranty through costco. You can purchase the warranty through them even if you purchased the TV through Amazon. It adds three years of warranty to the existing 1 year manufacturer's warranty (4 years total) for $99. That is $53 cheaper than the same warranty through Amazon and $113 cheaper than the 5 year warranty. I will be losing a year of coverage but for the price it is hard to beat.

Hey guys,  figured I would post my recent purchase since this site was helpful to me.  My TV crapped out about a month ago so I really didn't want to wait much longer.  Amazon has the 55in VT for $1600 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TC-P55VT60-55-Inch-Includes-Glasses/dp/B00BC4SJEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388470977&sr=8-1&keywords=TC-P55VT60

I asked them to price match EastCoast TVs price which was 1499 http://www.eastcoasttvs.com/Panasonic-Plasma-HDTV-p/tcp55vt60.htm?gclid=CPvKvOLq2bsCFct9OgodaVIARQ&Click=7751&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=shoppingengine

I was expecting Amazon to say no but they agreed.  I took their price match email to Best Buy and asked them to match plus split sales tax with me.  Told them that Amazon was tax free in PA.  I honestly don't know if it is still but liked the idea of having the BB close in case of a return. All said and done BB dropped it to 1420.  I picked up the 5 year geek squad coverage which ran me $350 and 24 months no interest card.  I probably could of went a better route with insurance but my last TV blew in 3 years.  G10 panny and I had no coverage and the repair cost was 2500!?. Panasonic was useless in the process.. I hate them but man they have the best TVs for that price!   I'd rather have the protection with BB anyway. So overall I think I did ok on the purchase price considering I really wanted/needed a new TV. Some of you guys following this would know better but if it sounds like a good deal. I gave you all the resources to get yourself one from Amazon or BB.

I dig the pricematch game
that makes the spread to the online pricing 60" ~$300
fair price but +tax ouch
opening a new card for this purchase (if that's the case)?
It will cost you in other ways than the interest savings
$350 for 4 year extended @ $1500 price level- expensive
I think you could have done much better with SquareTrade and a 30% off code

Best Buy ext. warranty is more hassle-free than SquareTrade. Everything has a price.

In what other ways will the credit card opening hurt him aside from a slightly lower credit score (temporary) and the additionally incurred debt? Depending upon how long he takes to pay off the balance, the interest savings can be substantial.

You really didn't save anything since you purchased the BB warranty. Good price on the TV though. I don't like warranties in general, but I think BB's is a rip off. There are other warranties out there that don't hit the wallet as hard.

This is the one I purchased. I don't think I would have bought a warranty if this wasn't the last year for Panasonic plasmas.

Have any of you that own VT60s ever registered your TVs online with Panasonic (for warranty purposes)?

I did and right after the registration, Panasonic offers you a 1 or 3 year extended warranty for like 8 bucks via Square Trade.

How good is Square Trade with these things?  Any of you have any good or bad experiences with them and TVs?

Thanks in advance.

They also offer less benefits. Only Best Buy will take back a plasma with burn-in for instance. Again, everything comes at a cost (I am saying this as someone who "cheaped out" and grabbed a Mack...I waited too long to be eligible for SquareTrade).

I think more hassle free is subjective upon to what extent it fails and when as in after the first year which is on Panny regardless

in terms of credit yes, that's the initial problem but the problem remains depending on your credit profile if you don't close it when done.
depending on the limit, if you don't close it when you're done, it is still regarded as open unsecured credit in the equation that arrives at your score
not to mention the temptation to use it, which BB and the card underwriter counts on

IMHO I just don't see 2K for a 55" and a warranty a slickdeal

I did and right after the registration, Panasonic offers you a 1 or 3 year extended warranty for like 8 bucks via Square Trade.

How good is Square Trade with these things?  Any of you have any good or bad experiences with them and TVs?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't registered, but the $8 SquareTrade offer intrigues me. Please elaborate. What is the price for each the 1 year and 3 year?

My only experience with SquareTrade is my purchase of the Costco 3 year SquareTrade plan for $99.
