Is this completely off?

Since it's a display mode, will they recharge it for free for you at the 2 year mark? -jk

So I ordered another one, actually the last one in stock, at the $2.295 price from Amazon. Well my tv has been delivered and I have run the slides and been watching tv to make sure there were no problems. I just had the fan noise fix today and it made a big difference. So now I am comfortable that my tv is ok and will be cancelling my order. I know there are a few guys here that were looking to get one of the Amazon ones for $2,295 and I would rather someone on these forums gets it than some slickdealer or ebayer. I'll post again stating exactly what time I will be cancelling so you guys can keep refreshing Amazon's webpage.

Cancelling NOW.

what were the prices on the vt and st if you can recall?

Approximately $2300 and $1800 if I recall correctly. They weren't the usual nice easy to remember prices ending in xx99.99, etc, they were some oddball clearance prices, so I can't recall the exact prices.

Because it has not hit Amazons available inventory yet. None of the ones for sale are from Amazon. When this becomes available it should sell for $2,294.99.

I doubt it becomes "available". I think they've got folks with pending orders for the 65VT....I'd bet one of them finally gets their order filled. Maybe.

Yeah, theres a point of diminishing returns. Hell, even the 65'' Sammy 5300 for $1200 would satisfy 99% of us. Nope, not state of the art blacks or cool smart features. But there is no way in hell id drop 3 grand on a 60 inch tv these days. The 2400 i paid for my KURO 5080 was pushing it 7 yrs ago.

Idk I don't think any Sammy under the F8500 has any anitglare filter so the suck under any light at all. Crappy LCD TV's satisfy most people tongue.gif

Yeah, the 5300's major downfall is its like a mirror. And I think the 60'' is pentile. I'd actually be fine with the st60 if it didn't have ridiculous lag and audio/video sync issues.

Exactly why I got the VT, but I do with I had enough money to buy a 8500 to compare, I might like it better. I'm really wondering about the VT I'm getting as I don't get how the blacks could be any better than my ST50 in the dark.

I think Panny would of sold plasmas better if back in like 2011 they put the light filter on the "S" and "U" TV's like the S64 and if the ST didn't have the lag or the 70's style refrigerator chrome trim

The chrome rim is fugly - agree with you there. If your going to tout reference black levels, have a black bezel. Or dark metal or something.

You have been deprived, friend. The last generation Kuros set the benchmark for what plasma can do in the dark. An ST50 would pale in comparison, especially in low APL scenes.

Amazon has finally shipped my TV. Kind of interesting even the shipping company states that the delivery is scheduled for 1/31/2014. Hopefully they decide to contact me before they try to deliver it...

PS - Has anybody have any experience trying to buy the squaretrade TV warranty at costco? Is it as simple as just buying it and then registering it for the warranty even though I bought the TV through amazon?

Average picture level (so, low-light scenes aka star-laden space or horror films). And that may be, but it's not a patch on what a Kuro can do. It would blow that middling ST50 out of the water on black levels and shadow details and is why most owners happy with 50" or 60" (the only sizes manufactured) are keeping their panels until OLED comes along.

The VT60 and ZT60 are suppose to be the same or better than Kuro right?

They are very close...but you can still get all the Kuros blacker with tweaks (requires fiddling with the service menu). A couple of the models (101FD and 500M, both 50" panels) have deeper blacks right out of the factory.
