Did LG drop the 65" 4K OLED?

And I thought the three 55" OLEDs were one 1080p (flat) in a frame, another 1080p flat, and one 55" that is curved 4k.

It's hard to keep track of all of LG's new OLED models.  Any confirmation on release dates?

I kinda feel sorry for Chris in that he's spent all these years building the brand Cleveland Plasma and pretty soon, plasmas are not going to be relevant.

Maybe he can change it to "Cleveland Display Tech of the Year...formally known as Cleveland Plasma" smile.gif

I personally like Cleveland Plasma the best. It was just a stupid joke I guess to change it to OLED.

Lest everyone get excited for the flat OLED, it is fixed in an obnoxious looking frame that cannot be separated from the TV to wall mount on its' own.

Rhetorical question:

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE A REGULAR OLED WITHOUT BEING CURVED THAT I CAN MOUNT ON A WALL WITHOUT SOME STUPID LOOKING CONTRAPTION THAT IS SOME IDIOTS IDEA OF FASHIONABLE?

Though I am an employee of Magnolia Home Theater, the views and opinions I express on this forum are those of my own and not my employer.

I have to agree that samsung OLED frame is so ugly. Lg OLED looks like how a tv should be except that curve.

IMO, this was not from some fashioneesta or engineer going for a feng shui design precedent.

I think they are trying to overcome costs associated with the manufacturing of these panels. I think they found it a little more cost effective to build 'em curved vs flat.

And their marketing teams ran with this notion as well. Swaying prospective hi-end tv shoppers from buying flat panels and instead opting for their curved panels because it's the next must have device.

I hope they fail. It would be nice if they came up with a new game plan and ultimately start producing flat panel OLEDs. We can only hope!

I remember reading somewhere the curve and frame were done to give buyers the chance to show off their new expensive tech. As in, look at my fancy curved screen which can not be mistaken for a plasma or LCD.

the curve would be great if it was a 100" + screen.

of if you plan on watching TV alone.

I would think it's even more important to be centered with a curved screen with sizes less than 90" lets say?
and the viewing distance sweet spot would be more exact.

The consumer has embraced HDTV, partially because of the convenience of hanging a unobtrusive flat panel on the wall, instead of having a bulky tube or rear projection TV.

Try hanging a curved OLED on the wall.

Probably one of those Blu-ray release things - not available to Tuesday next week. No, we can't tell you the pricing until Tuesday next week! Under strict orders!

What if you were to accidentally "fall" on your keyboard, and somehow, you pressed the four digits that represent the new price of the 64'' f8500. That wouldn't be your fault at all....accidents happen.

:-)

Tuesday it is.

I am curious how Samsung's pricing is working out for them - TV's are like cars as very infrequent consumer purchases.  In the (admittedly small and obviously not-profitable anyway) plasma market, you've gotta think Panasonic's end-of-the-line sales wiped out a huge % of Samsung's potential customers for the 8500...once someone bought that ST/VT/ZT, they're not going to be buying another tv for a long time...

Unfortunately, the reliability has gone down hill. I'm seeing reports of many TVs failing in less than 2-3 years.

This is what worries me. I have a 7th Gen Pioneer that has been running like a champ since 2006.

I want a 60" or 65" to replace it in my living room but missed out on the VT/ZT sale in December. Honestly, I've never wanted a Panasonic (fading blacks, IR, buzz) until these last two models and was always put off by the KURO envy in their forums.

I'll probably pick up an F8500 64" and hope it ties me over until 4K OLED becomes widely available/affordable.

I'm willing to spend ~$2500 and hope that's obtainable in the near future.

I never wanted a Panasonic until those arrived either (having owned a 9G Kuro and wanting to upgrade in size). Now I'm put off by Pioneer holdouts misrepresenting the competition and belittling it at every turn. What can you do? The internet is a keyboard warrior's paradise.
