Think about it: If they printed Manufacturing Dates on the Outside of the Box, everyone would wish to have the latest greatest. Leave the Date off, you get what you get! No inventory issues.

For the record I dont think Panasonic or LG does either

All production dates can be deciphered from the serial#.

Example - Z5QQ3CTD400581V

Would equal a April 2013 build. The 8th/9th letter/number are the indicators. C=2012 D=2013/number is the month

That doesn't work for me UNLESS the 9th through Sept (9) and then reverts to an Alpha character Oct (A), Nov (B), Dec (C).

Mine: 8th (D), 9th (A)

Build is Oct '13

I thought it might be a Julian date in the 12, 13, 14 position and then my 298 was a fit for an October build. That was checked by I believe one other person and he said it didn't fit his.

Others?

You did NOT finish the monthly sequencing in our original post. I surmised the possibility and mentioned UNLESS!

Had you completed your original post I could have just responded: WORKS FOR ME

That was rather uncalled for - it only requires a few owners to confirm first hand and all is well.

The fact that you didn't complete the sequencing in your original post could maybe be interpreted as the "usual response from a Samsung representative" - half-a$$'d (your lol got you that comment)

I just received delivery of my 64F8500. The 8th/9th letters of the S/N are: D/B (2013 / February) build date?

Seems kind of old to me. I live in NY and the PDP shipped from California, which also seems odd.

The shippers declined to remain while I inspected the TV because I did not have "white glove" delivery.

I opened the top of the box and everything appears to be intact.

Is it possible for (1) individual to remove the box from the PDP or do I need to wait until my nephew can help me later this afternoon?

You can accomplish it no problem! You only removed straps and cut the tape to inspect? You didn't lift the top from the base? Remove 4 latches at the bottom (easy) and the top will lift straight up to uncover three Styrofoam blocks, one on each end and one center that also drops in front of the screen to protect it.

Did you note on the delivery receipt that inspection was denied by delivery team

D - B would indicate to me that when open you will find November 2013 build.

It appears to me that your display was drop-shipped and not directly from the reseller. I bought form a reseller with store fronts in different parts of the country and mine came from a location where they have a storefront and wasn't very close to me. It wasn't across country though. The first-leg of the shipment to me was by air-freight and then LTL carrier to me. They told me when I placed my order because of my location the display could ship from one of two warehouses that had stock. Both warehouses were theirs.

Thanks. I managed to figure out how to pop the tabs at the bottom of the box and remove the top.

The PDP was dropped shipped and no I did not indicate on the receipt the delivery guys declined to remain while I opened the box.

However, from what I can tell the display appears to be intact and I'll have to wait until this evening to get my nephew here to help me set up the PDP.

You are correct the build date for the manufacturers label on the back of the PDP is 11/13.

You can power it on in the Styrofoam blocks if you like. There's no issues. If you've got your slides on a USB use them or if you're anywhere near your final set-up location you could connect to whatever.

Always best to do a quick power on as well, people have missed cracked screens in the past, plasma's will not power on if the screen is cracked.

I powered on the PDP and the initial setup screen was displayed. I couldn't inspect the image very well because the F8500 is facing south & it's a sunny day here today. The bottom part of the display is still in the box so the infrared remote(s) didn't work well with the PDP. I powered off the PDP and will go through the set up screen(s) later on tonight.

One thing I noticed (or did not hear) is the PDP was pretty quiet while powered on. There was a minor buzz coming from the right-hand side behind the panel if standing in front. I had to move behind the display to hear it.

I'm not sure of the buzzing noise will increase once the display warms up or is influenced by the image being rendered, but if what I hear remains the same this will be perfectly acceptable for me.

For those of you like me who have been considering the PN51F8500 (especially now that the H7000 may not be coming) and who have been looking for the price to go back down towards $1500 since they went up to $1800 at the end of February: Paul's TVs has a 20% coupon going right now (MARCH20) which several people have successfully used on the F8500. The coupon brings the 51" down to $1440, the 60" to $1920 and the 64" to $2480. Using Ebates or Fatwallet will give you an additional 2.5% off.

Happy Hunting!

PS: May also work on other models as well.

Just went through Pauls TV and everything was looking good and when I hit the payment button the price for the 60" showed $1919.99. However, after I hit the payment button, the email receipt shows the full price of $2399.99. When I log into my Pauls TV account, my order details shows the full price as well. Not sure where the discount went. That's pretty shady crap so I now have to call and cancel my order.

We would argue that this means the PN64H5000 is not strictly a “Full HD 1080p” display, but we’d welcome the debate (for what it’s worth, Samsung themselves have used the phrase “1080p Vertical” on the packaging).

Just reporting another successful price match through Amazon for Paul's TV. Got the 60" for $1919.99. It took a little bit of time on the phone call but at the end I got the discount. Since I'm in NC, had to pay state taxes but that's ok.

I got a PN60E530 for less than $600. then when I brought it home I found out that it was only 1080P in black and white according to Samsung... so I was Not happy!

there should had been a class action suite against Samsung for this Deception.

if they don't take care of my cosmetic defect on my PN60F8500 stand, I may go ahead and pay the $50 and take them to small claims court.
