Also, I used SAMSUNG1 to buy mine.
When i submitted my order it hit a fraud alert with my credit card.
After I resolved the fraud alert and re-submitted it charged my
credit card at the full price. I had to contact Paul's to get the difference
refunded.

So if this happens to you, then contact Paul's to get the difference.
Abe's of Maine is offering this TV for $2329. Is Abe's an authorized dealer meaning are they selling a refurbished unit or is this "too good to be true"? I meant PN64F8500.

Reportedly they'll take your order online and then call you to upsell you on an extended warranty, tell you about the extra large item shipping charge that didn't show up during the checkout process, explain that price is for a gray market item without a US warranty but the US warranty one is only a few hundred extra, or some similar story to increase the price you're going to pay for it by a few hundred dollars. YMMV

Abe's in probably an unauthorized dealer. They are what's known as the grey market.

I originally did my research and ordered from Greystone Appliance. They seemed the most reputable out of all the grey market sellers and my experience has been horrible.

My credit card was charged and a week later I received an email that their warehouse was robbed and they lost two trailers filled with TV's and are unable to fulfill my order and would refund my money within 3-5 days.

It has been over two weeks and approaching three and the money has still not been refunded. I have opened up a dispute with american express.

sivpar -

There is an ongoing thread dedicated to the discussion of Abes of Maine here on AVS. It was an old thread, which coincidentally, got bumped with new posting activity within the last month or so. Several useful posts there on the most recent pages. Basically what stereodude just described, but fleshed out a bit more.

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

Anyone seen this side by side to the F8000 model? Seeing a great deal on a 65F8000 LED for $2100 free ship no tax from an authorized seller. Wondering if it's worth $500-600 more for the 64F8500. This coming from a 55LH90...dang...decisions....

the first place I saw the f8500 in person had it side by side on the bright showroom floor with the f8000. I honestly walked right passed the f8500 and had no idea it was a plasma, haha.

I haven't seen the f8000 in the dark, but I suspect that in a bright room the f8500 and f8000 will look quite similar, but in a dark room the f8500 will be worth every penny.

on the other hand, if I were going to go for an LED, I don't think it'd be the f8000 anyway. there's a lot of choices and competition there, and i'm not sure the f8000 is the one to go with.

Interesting, why not? Industry reviews seemed to suggest the f8000 was the premier LED of last year's crop.

what i meant was that i'm not sure the f8000 is the best led. not that i'm sure the f8000 is not the best led...

i don't know if there's something else out there better, i just know there's a LOT of other options, unlike with plasma

personally, i'm not actually a fan of Samsung(i feel like i keep trying to replace no-name lcd's with samsungs, and the samsungs end up being worse ), so my bias alone would probably point me somewhere else for LED. sony's been getting some high praise as well, I'd at least check them out, and possibly vizio if they ever make good on their FALD promise

Thanks for your feedback. Guess I will stay away from the shady online dealers who offer lower price tag. Paul's TV is offering it for $2649+taxes. Sound like a decent deal?

As of a few months ago Cleveland Plasma had it for the same price shipped, but without sales tax.

Sears finally has my TV and delivery is scheduled for this coming weekend. I haven't gotten the shop at home cashback yet. I put in an inquiry with Shop at Home to see what the issue is.

When the 55" LG OLED was on sale at Microcenter for $2k I tried desperately to get it. My store was sold out and then restocked on the day the sale ended and wouldn't honor the price. That kind of changed my thought process on the F8500. Maybe I won't have to wait too long for another OLED deal. So do i still take the F8500 or wait? I can probably hold out till fall, but my current Samsung plasma turns itself off and on during blurays.

Could you please let me know what promo code you are using to get this price at Paul's TV, I can't seem to find one that is still active. Also, does anyone know of any active or upcoming Paul's codes, does Paul's frequently offer these?

Thanks!

You can try negotiating directly with Paul's TV by calling or website chatting - no special codes required.

Value Electronics has one of the best reputations in the A/V business. They are a couple of towns over form me and I would highly recommend them.

I think they upcharge +/- $500 to that service, which comes fully calibrated upon delivery.

I have decided to buy the PN60F8500 but am struggling with the issue of timing.
Next week I am leaving on a 3 week vacation and am wondering if I need to order
this before leaving town.

Is this model being discontinued? Any reason that I should order it now instead of waiting 3 weeks?

Wait, what? I got the Pauls TV promo to take the price down to $2634 shipped. But how'd you get the price down to $2,039?!

Well I think you will be fine but you never know. The best buy stores around me no longer have them in stock but they can be ordered. It has also been discontinued in a lot of countries.

If you order from Amazon (they price match Paul's TV) and you can schedule delivery a long ways out, easily 3 weeks. I waited on the Panasonic ZT60 and got burned.

Thanks to the tip here, just pulled trigger on a pn64f8500 at Paul's for $2634.99. That's about $300 more than grey market, but that's worth the peace of mind for me.

Now over to amazon for a new bracket and cables...

I also got my tv delivered from Paul's about a week ago and I have been breaking it in.

Very happy with Paul's. This TV also included free white glove service which is nice.

I read some bad reviews on CEVA (the company they use for white glove delivery), but
nothing was damaged and everything went smoothly.

Abe's, however, is now listing the 60" for $1,669.00. Grey market is very tempting.

Indeed, but with the seemingly more common buzzing on the 60", I'd hate to be in a situation of needing to return/replace it with a grey market dealer.

64H5000 Price break

Just saw the Samsung PN64H5000 for $1200. Is there any reason not to go this route? Such a good price for a plasma of that size.
