Much as I wish I could, I can't take the credit. Just relaying what I saw somewhere along the way using my set as the example.

No but I've seen plenty scratched up panels in BB displays from them. :D

How many have done the fix and ended up with a cracked screen? Percentage wise <2%?

Got another question for you guys. I found a Best Buy store that has the ZT65 NIB for $2999, but they are FAR out of my region. If I was to purchase this and have it shipped by a separate third party, is there a recommended company that does this type of thing? I don't want to miss out on this chance since the one I received on Friday was broken upon arrival.

I've never heard of such a company...that also adds a lot of risk since you'd be involving a third party.

You'd have to insure the hell out of it and get references on the company. Make sure they have experience shipping large plasmas. Otherwise you could end up with damage, no warranty, and a fly by night, poorly insured trucking company pointing fingers and you're SOL. I'd get it myself.

Who in their right mind draws on a screen like the ZT with its coatings and all? I know Panasonic sells that pen but it sounds absurd in the extreme to use it.

larrygeary and j-rod21 like this.

i picked up a pen when it was ~$18 on amazon just to have one. Pretty cool but not much I could see doing with it outside of a meeting or something. I doubt it would scratch the panel unless you really pushed it hard against the glass (hence the scratched BB Display units). That being said I only used mine twice for maybe a minute.

BB can do a store to store ship for about $150.

They do but they need to be willing to do it. It is something they have in place to take care of customers when they need to. First start with your local BB and see if they are willing. Then have them contact the other store and ask if they will. The charge for a 65zt should be just over $150.

I've seen VT60s for prices like that, but not ZT60s...? Perhaps they gave you the ZT60 for the VT60 price without noticing?

It happens sometimes. That's the second best deal I've seen to mine which was 1700, also from BB.

Design Center locations can do this, but not standard Best Buy or MHT locations. Many reasons for this, but it is what it is.

Not to disrespect but you're wrong, it can be done. It was even a shoebox BB that was handling the ship, not even MHT. Now, I'm not saying that they will or are supposed to but they can. They were also doing it for someone else when I was there. I ended up not doing it because someone just bought the TV.

Yes, to clarify, they are not supposed to. I imagine any retailer anywhere CAN do whatever they want. The fact of the matter is that if they're not supposed to, they probably won't. They don't really have a way of charging for the shipping at a regular BBY, and there isn't enough profit left in these to cover a $150 shipping charge. They also run the risk of eating the loss in the event the third party shipping company damages the set. If they have a way to charge for shipping, it would make sense. Without that though, it would just be a large hole to throw money down. So hopefully the stores you saw doing this were finding a way to make up for that.

The Best Buys in Central Florida have 2 65ZT60s in open box: Sanford and E Colonial. They list the condition as excellent but unsure what that entails and obviously YMMV. No prices listed on website.

55" VT60 in Kissimmee, open box -- no other details or prices listed on the website.

60" ST60 in Altamonte (excellent for $1,290.99) and Kissimmee (good $1,215.99). Multiple 50ST60s starting ~$810.

Hope that helps someone out there. You could always take a vacation in Central Florida and bring back the TV with you.

Just visited the Best Buy in Irvine, CA along I-5. They have one open box 65ZT60 there for 2819.99 (and ironically the regular price on a tag right underneath it that says 2999.99) but what's interesting is that they also list the reason for the open box on the sheet, and it says "Customer Return". I didn't have the remote to check the hours, but if it really is a return it probably has low-ish hours on it and I didn't see any IR. If someone is looking in So. Cal that one is worth a look. Since the regular price is 2999 (at least on their label), you can at LEAST ask for the full 10 percent off of that which is the required base open box discount, which should put the TV at 2700 or thereabouts.

Just a heads up for anyone looking.

Typical? Yes. Required? No. Personally, I'd ask for a better price than $2819 as well, but policy does not require them to discount a minimum of 10%. I could see them sticking to their guns if the TV is complete and in great condition. After all, someone will definitely buy at that price.

I found an Open Box (Return) TC-P60ZT60 60-Inch at a local Best Buy (Union, NJ) with ~300 hours on it. Pulled the trigger and picked it up for $1999. It's missing the two 3D glasses, but everything else seemed to be in good shape. No burn-in, scratches, or visible damage.

There was also a second 65 inch ZT60 which was a floor display model with ~2500 hours. They were selling it for $2500 for anyone in the NY metro area who is interested.

By the way, the sales associate did a check for me and these were the last two in NJ.

Thx AGCM84! For those in the San Diego area, just confirmed, the Best Buy in Mission Valley does indeed still have new ZT60's. The Magnolia representative said he only has about 3-4 left (as of 2/4), $2,700 includes tax & local delivery.

FYI, certain BestBuy stores around the country have them as well, but they can't do interstore transfers or out of region deliveries. I poked around and found some in Medford, OR and Idaho.

I'm picking mine up tomorrow.

Good luck if anyone is close and still looking. PS If I end up not keeping it, I might let one of you take it off my hands. I can't really afford it right now and I keep going back and forth on whether to go through with it.

Yes, pay special attention to the Design center stores and Pac Sales stores. Their inventory is not reflected on BestBuy.com and is not visible to regular Best Buy stores or Magnolia Home Theater stores, so the only way you can check it is to call them or stop in.

I bought my 60ZT60 NIB just last week. They had quite a few still left in their warehouse.

Speaker - will MDC's ship to BB stores if they are pulling a tv from a warehouse? I know the 3 in the MPLS area can get one - but Id prefer it shipped.

Chances are they will not ship it to a regular BBY store. This requires quite a few additional steps, since the warehouses & inventory are not shared. Are you in the Chicago Area? If so, there is an MDC there, not sure offhand if their warehouse has units, but it would be worth a shot.
